Maybe be a seized link in the chain?? Check to see all the links move freely

Check the cleanliness and adjustment of your chain. As delvey says check the links are free too.

Re: Bandit making clicking noise
i would go with shitty chain, might even have a stone stuck somewhere.
scrape out all the crap around the sprocket, clean and degrease the area then clean, degrease, clean and lube the chain.
make sure when cleaning the chain you flex every link to confirm it moves freely, u will be able to feel if it has any grit in there, if it does, work the link until smooth.

Equally, what is the condition of the sprocket, and is the chain adjusted correctly
Also check the sprocket nut is done up tightly, and there is nothing coming into contact with the sprocket or nut as it rotates - spin the wheel with the cover both on and off and see if you can see where/when the noise occurs

Re: Bandit making clicking noise
What Moose said, sounds like a dry sticking joint on the chain catching as it goes round the tighter radius of the front sprocket.
Re: Bandit making clicking noise
i have a 14 tooth front sprocket and the front sprocket bolt has been coming loose after a short journeys, so i have been having to tighten it every 20odd miles, its only been doing this since i got the 14tooth sprocket fitted, would that be the problem?,the chain shouldn't be bad or worn due to getting it fitted around 100miles ago... and i only use me bike for work and back... thanks for all your help so far: )
Re: Bandit making clicking noise
but i will double check the chain
just to make sure,

Re: Bandit making clicking noise
That raises another set of questions -
When you replaced the sprocket nut, did you use a new (or even the old) tab-washer
Did you fit new sprockets with the chain - always best to replace as a set
What's stock size for the sprocket? As few as 14 teeth is going to be a relatively tight radius ..... I know dropping from 17 to 16 on mine created a significant increase in chain noise

tab-washer? whats that? is that the washer u hammer down on to the bolt? because it hasn't got one off them on it i asked my local garage who fitted the chain and sprocket that there is no need for one or something but i remmember having one on my dt125re so no 100% sure, yes it is a full set front sprocket, rear sprocket and chain, the original front sprocket is 15tooth so i have only dropped it down 1 tooth, thanks alot for this moose, much appreciated:) xTLS-Moose wrote:That raises another set of questions -

Re: Bandit making clicking noise
Check the side plates of the chain, as some of the cheper brands of chain have been known to crack the side plates. Also check the rivet link that was fitted, if the link has been over pressed before rivetting it can make that link tight, and as you're running a 14 on the front as Moose points out there is a much tighter radius for the chain to travel round, which will make a tight link struggle even more than usual.
Re: Bandit making clicking noise
Dont I know it, I bought a chain from Stealth and the pins were being pulled horizontaly through the plates!jam wrote:Check the side plates of the chain, as some of the cheper brands of chain have been known to crack the side plates.

I'd be very worried if my front sprocket was coming loose at all let alone after only 20 odd miles.
I would of thought there should be some sort of locking device fitted. It does appear it needs one.
Somethings obviously not right in that area.
Hope you get it sorted quickly.
