BIG PROBLEM! help :(

Post by wanzey »

ok i went out for a late night ride last night, lovely empty roads! was heading home from honiton way on the dual carrage way (i live pinhoe, exeter) got to the "40" zone after opening her up a bit and slowed down to 40, then all of a sudden it feels like shes running out of petrol with the bluuurrrr noise and slowing, so i drop a gear, bump it, nothing, have to pull over on dually, try and figure out whats wrong, tonnes of petrol before funky has a jab.... fuel tap on on, so i try it on reserve, still nothing , just popping and farting, attempt a kick, only to find [censored] all compression in a 625cc single! now im proper stumped, look for the plug see if its rattled loose, i mean it is a ktm (keep tightening me) and it feels as though it has come a little loose but i was just the ht lead cap, and the lead had come off the ht cap screw, so i screw him back on cheack plug (this was all today after a 1 oclock 6 miles walk and push.....) still nothing! and i am stumped! anyone got any ideas?? be ideal if i could save forking out on my normal mobile mechanic, as im skint atm! and need it for wednesday for college  please help guys! :D much appreciated.

Take the plug out and check it .....

However, if you really have no compression, then it's likely to be either valves or piston ......

Check that there is fuel getting to the motor, take the float bowl off and make sure no water has got in there, have you checked for a spark? the plug may look good but unless you are getting a nice fat spark it ain't worth a shiit. Check what type of fuel tap you have is it a vacum operated one, is the vacum hose damaged or perished. There are a lot of variables, so check for fuel, spark, compression, and whether the air filter is clear or not. I know of someone who had their jumper under the seat which was blocking off the snorkel into the airbox causing the bike to fire up and then die straight away.

But none of that would affect compression, and you said it had no compression - hence my post :?

If it has no compression, that can only be affected by either the valves or the piston/rings
