Ducati 1100 Monster starting

Post by stevebinary »

Hello all

Anyone have any knowledge on Ducati's
bike sometimes starts ok but on other occasions there is a click and thats it, so we have tried ,,,,,,,

Checking ..
side stand cut out.
Neutral indicator switch , by linking it out so the bike thinks it in neutral. this was a bit iffy
Clutch micro switch works ok.
Battery is fully charged.
Kill switch works ok,

The click comes from under the fuel tank, sounds like the starter solenoid but i have not been able to get at it to check it out.
So any other suggestions or in depth knowledge on Ducatis

Thanks

I'd start with cleaning up the starter motor terminal and crimp on the cable. It's at the bottom of the engine so gets hit by most of the weather.

Poorly battery/low battery voltage or starter solenoid. My MV does it occasionally, usually down to the battery. Other than that just follow all connectors in the ignition/starter circuit and make sure they're all good....

i will try the starter motor first and then dig out the starter solenoid for a check, it's buried pretty deep, maybe the heat has'nt helped it.

Ducatis are hard on starters as big v twins.

As said above check starter solinoid, contacts on starter and starter relay. And make sure the earth from engine to frame and frame to battery are clean and good.

Check all connections and contacts as matter of course but test the health of the battery as well. If its not tip-top get a new one. Lazy starts and refusals, whatever the cause, don't do Ducati sprag clutches any good at all.
