removing 'not for road use'

Morning all, what's the best way to scrub off the annoying lettering, its on the top of the can stamped in to it..... My bike is a tad rough round the edges but I'd like to remove that bit an nicely as I can, so I'm calling on your experience please

A photo of the offending item may be better as then will know whether it I on the strap or on the can.
If it's on the strap they can be taken off and flipped over to hide it or a new strap would only be cheap.
Or could take a grinder to it and sand it out then work through sand paper grades to get rid or the grinding marks.

Without seeing it or knowing what can it is it's hard to comment.

Examiners and Police aren't allowed to remove anything when inspecting.
