West bay - Sun 9th, were you there?

Post by Jug »

I pop'ed into West Bay yesterday lunchtime (by car) just to see how many bikers were there and I think it was the most I've ever seen there!

Just wondering of anyone on here was there? :D

Heaving there. Took one look at the bike parking and buggered off to Weymouth instead. My two mates went back after we departed Weymouth and managed to get parked up, but said all the bikes parked on the double yellows on the road by the entrance to the bike park got ticketed. Not surprised really as it makes it difficult for the buses to get around there. One day this will happen

No, but I did pop over the water for a few miles.

Hundreds of bikes, and trillions of cyclists.

P.S. There were LOADS of feds in Wales on Sunday. Some prowling, others secreted in the undegrowth with cameras !

Any idea what time the feds generally set up camp?

I'm NOT a mornings person but I'm beginning to wonder if it's actually 'the way' as summer comes in.

I'm reasonably new back to road riding (2 years), and doing it in the west country also... as last year I remember many a frustrating mile spend over taking very slow traffic and being held up behind caravans.

No idea. I'm never over there until 10.30 +

There have been a lot of whinges from the locals to the feds and to their local gov. re certain roads taked by the illegal immigrants of St. George. First really decent weather w/e and the Hedds were out in force.

I was at West Bay for 15 minutes at lunch time. Couldn't breath, move or park. Nipped into Helmet City to check on a lid availability then buggered off. Can't say where I parked. Secret spot.. :-$

Wasn't just the bikes. The little back lane which comes out on the Weymouth coast road was gridlocked. Tailbacks of cars trying to get in, tailbacks of cars trying to get out, including a bus, and cars parked both sides. The traffic warden was up there tearing his hair out. What a pointless way to spend a Sunday. Earlies only for me in future.

I'm back up in Wales end of June but most of my riding will be week days.

It's all getting out of hand. A group of us went down to a misty Portland in February and there was a queue for tables in the café.

I went out yesterday.
Knowing WB would probably be heaving I had a quick squizz at the map the night before and found a tiny ickle beach with hardly anyone there...perfect. Traffic was to be expected on some of the roads, but it was a sunny day and lets face it we dont know how many of those we'll get in any english summer lol.

always out early, HATE riding in traffic. The road from westbay to weymouth was empty!

RTTB timing is my idea of a fun run.

Evenings are good too in summer. Traffic has gone home and the roads are still warm.
The problem early and late my way is deer. Going over Cranborne Chase e few nights ago and a Sika stag the size of a pit pony stepped out in front of me.
