AVATAR RESIZE ANYONE HELP? :D

hey guys, u might have noticed how stupidly tiny my profile pic is. i've re-sized it to 80x80 pixels but it's saying the file must be between 0-9kb. after re-sizing it, the size is getting on for 600 kb! am i supposed to save i as a different format or somthing? Thanks, Tom.

save it as a jpg with the quality at 60%, that should make it small enough
