Advice for caught speeding (over 100mph)?
My mate just phoned to tell me he got snapped by a mobile on the way home from our last ride, he's received the letter.
107 in a 70 (dual carriageway) and he's already got 3 points.
Anyone had similar experience recently?
He's not sure what to do, to get a solicitor or not (as that might just antagonise the judge).
He's not disputing it but would like to escape a ban if possible?
Looks like the penalty could be a fine up to £1,000 and 7 to 56 days ban or 6 points..
Should he sell the bike now to show remorse before going to court?
Safe to say he's not a happy bunny...
So.. anyone have any advice I can pass on?

I have not been in this situation however considering how much he / she was speeding at I would suggest they get legal advise even if they do not have legal representation in court. Selling the bike will not prove anything you can speed in any vehicle so get advice on what to do from somebody that knows how to handle it.

i would say, sell the bike. makes it look like it was a mistake, you are very sorry and it can't happen again.
failing that, practice either walking everywhere or not dropping the soap

I don't see how selling your bike will help ... you are the one with your hand on the throttle so if you intend to speed you have to take the rap . this is why there are track days ....billinom8s wrote:i would say, sell the bike. makes it look like it was a mistake, you are very sorry and it can't happen again.

I've offered to take the bike off his hands and can transfer it back later if needed... Nice bike too, would go well in my garage.. He wasn't keen on the idea.billinom8s wrote:i would say, sell the bike. makes it look like it was a mistake, you are very sorry and it can't happen again.
The next suggestion I made was to actually sell his bike and buy a smaller one, one that will feel exhilarating at a lower speed and will be cheaper to insure once his license gets spanked (with loads of points or a ban).
I actually think he should do that now, a Honda NC700 or 750X - cheap to insure & very economical commuter.

There have actually been chases where the defendant has sold their "fast car" and bought a low powered "slow car" to show that they are sorry and intend to make sure it doesn't happen again. This could be the difference between 6 points & a fine or a ban and a fine. The Muppet wrote: I don't see how selling your bike will help ... you are the one with your hand on the throttle so if you intend to speed you have to take the rap . this is why there are track days ....
Personally, I'd rather take the ban and then have a clean licence rather than 3 years of being scared of accidentally getting 3 points and then being banned.

it's the knock on.
a ban will increase insurance premiums, depending on his employment he could lose his job, worse still he could be made to ride a gixer or goldwing for a year

LOL
No fear of losing his job, he's the boss... but the gixer.. seriously, what kind of 3rd world country do you think we are living in!
Question is, which hurts your insurance more - 3 points and a ban or 9 points and no ban?

Re: Advice for caught speeding (over 100mph)?
I got an sp50 for doing average of 112mph on the motorway.
Got a free pass to court though and after a short hearing, banned.
It hurt a lot on insurance, but age 22 with a ban would.
Nearly doubled my car insurance.
As for bike it went up a fair chunk.
Lots of people see 9 points as a last chance salon.
If you get 3 more your banned so sometimes it works out better to do that and be responsible as such in the eyes of some companies.

Get a solicitor who's appearance at court will indicate the felon takes the matter seriously. Dress for the occasion, it's a court of law not a party, plead guilty, say very sorry and get the solicitor to argue the case for points and fine - the criminal should do their best avoid a ban.
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

I didn't get any option to avoid a ban,
Was just the length of time and whether a resit of test was needed which was being argued.
But the solicitor did help on my case

Just playing devils advocate here.. but what would happen if you didn't even attend court, or is that not an option?
