maybe i should change that to it doesnt matter to me , like the time when we went up that lil steep climb just out the river and onto the road, lol i thought i was gonna drop back down in to the stream lol chers for grabbing me

Proper "crossers" now known as MOTOCROSS is where people spend loads of money on a passion they have, and will only ride on tracks that are legal and they are far and few apart, hence why i havent rode for weeks.
So get your facts right, as "crossers" are people that respect the sport, not some chav that dont give a f*ck

Whoa - thats a bit strong, I don't think Andy meant to offend & I see he's apologised but he's got a point.

You, me & most people here know what commitment is required for any kind of motorsport, not to mention the 'pussy footing' around we must do to landowners, councils & police when organising events.
Andy has inadvertantly stated what most people think of 'off road' bike riders - ie Chavs on knackered old crossers/stolen bikes etc not giving a care who they offend. Didn't think we had such a problem here but last Sunday bought it home, we had just stopped off a legal lane when 6 kids (all 14/15) stopped with us, 2 on crossers (no lights), one on a TTR250, plus two CG125s (again no lights), none of them had numberplates. we asked them how they got there & where they had come from - about 8 miles using cycle paths and footpaths.
How many of the public did they blast past? The same public weren't to know that only a couple of miles away, a half day trial was quietly taking place on some private 'sensitive' organised by hard working members of my local club.
Think about it, whats a normal member of the public likely to see: a year old immaculately prepared KTM, all clean & race ready on a paddock stand next to a few hundred quids worth of kit or a 10 year old RM250 with bent bars, stolen levers with some oik wearing a dodgy fitting helmet and a disrespectful attitude?
The point is, what can we do to stop this stereotyping? It's the legal users that constantly face closures yet this dickheads will continue ignoring laws etc getting the public to really hate us.

To be fair, I know I lost my rag, but it was the way you wrote it.
But as people that enjoy off road fun as well, me on a track, and you on trail rides, we do it correctly, and we all hate these chavs on mostly stolen bikes, that dont care, that is killing us.
I know I have NO tracks to go to, and more are shutting down, instead of opening. And I bet your finding your losing trails.
But what can we do about it

Problem is, it's not just motocross. I used to speedhillclimb for lots of years, you could do most of the season without leaving Cornwall (albeit you needed to travel if you were contending a national championship). At one stage we had 9 or 10 venues in Cornwall, mostly bikes only; now theres 2, both to make up numbers at car events.

The sport focus and popularity seems to vary, road trials were very popular but these are quieting off now, enduros are still in favour, grasstrack has virtually died; my local club are looking to run a motocross this year for the first time in many years so perhaps things might be looking up again.

If you want to moan about somthing e.g. my generalisation of crossers and enduro (I know nothing about offroaders, I appoligise for offending) Then use the kiddies play area section or pm the person you are upset about.

OK sorry the comments went a bit off topic but at least you can see, people who use motards/enduro bikes during the winter also use them all year round, sometimes as a second bike for the different dimension on biking it gives, not for the convenience factor - I probably spend more money maintaining my XR than I do my SD.

Back to your original point about getting an 'off road' bike to use during the winter. The season is irrelevant, as above, you'll use a dirtbike all year round; so if you want to ride off road yes - get a dirtbike. If you want a winter bike, then no - get a CB500/ER5. Why?, ask anybody who's used a proper dirtbike over the winter: crap lights, no weather protection, dodgy tyres, poor fuel range not to mention regular maintenance (these are competition bikes remember).

It's horses for courses, really bit like asking if an old Landrover is a good winter car over say a VW Golf - unless you live on the moors the VW will be nicer, warmer & economical to drive all winter.
If you do get a dirtbike for a bit of off road riding (don't let me put you off), drop us a line and we'll show you some good lanes - regardless of the time of year (winter = mud/hard work, summer = dry going/hard landings ouch).

If you're keeping the GSXR, then get something with proper off road wheels, just remember if you have a good day off road on Sunday it'll need a bit of maintenance before you can ride it to work on Monday.
If you're selling the GSXR then get a 'moto to give you your cornering kicks.

No doubt Sonic will be along in a moment to tell you to get a Motard no matter what - problem is I do like motards but for the riding I do I'm quite happy with what I have.
