I would like to ask for some advice please? I’m looking at getting a Suzuki gs500f and looking at changing the chain and sprocket and wondered if there was any recommendations please.

And then buy a sprocket separately?
Nope.
Follow Herr nom8s' link (above) and check out the chain and sprockets kit. Always change both sprockets and the chain together. You'll need a decent quality chain splitter and riveter too. I've just done this job on a mates Kawasaki ER 6-N and if you're going to do it yourself be prepared for the (front) gearbox sprocket to be gorilla tight!
I did a similar thing a while ago on a Suzuki GSXR 1000, the one thing that you need to be aware of is that it mucks up your speedo as this runs based on engine revs and gears so once you make the change you also need to get a speedo healer.
being open i wasn't going to bother until I was informed it does not only muck up your speedo reading on what speed your doing but then starts to incorrectly calculate your mileage as well. If your bike is the same would highly recommend a speedo healer just to sort out the change.

You'll may only need to recalibrate your speedo/mileometer or use a 'speedo healer' if you change either of the sprocket sizes - see 'Note: below. If you keep to the same sizes then the speedometer and odometer readings stay the same - obviously.
Note: If the Susuki GS500 takes it's speedo drive from the front wheel, which I think it does, then you won't have to worry about any of the above - nothing will change speedo-wise no matter what you do with the gearing.

Thank you for the useful info, I’ve been getting a lot mixed reviews about the bike also, so my thought at the moment is getting the oil seal changed on the crank case and fit new rear tyre and chain and sprocket at some point. And advertise and ride it while actively selling.
