Castlecombe wednesday 26th July

Post by Dan_RR »

As title, me and Dave (Exxon-Valdez) have booked, shorter sessions and quite strict noise limits just so people are aware, its up and back in a day though so no need to stay over. Have to book directly on Combe website, link here: https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/motorcycle-track-days

Cheers.

I've done Combe a few times now. Although the published noise limits are stricter, they seem to be pretty sensible about applying them now, and want to get people through. If you fail the first time, they will keep trying, plus they generally test a little below the 3/4 max revs that they state. As a novice the small groups are great, and other riders have said, it is a bit less intense / aggressive as a result. It's always been really friendly and good natured. I've never been anywhere else, but doing Mallory in June, so I'll find out.

Combe does get booked up really fast, so you have to commit to it early, I wanted to get one in July, but tried to book too late. I'm next going in August 8th for skills day and September 13th for Track day.

I hope you enjoy it

Yikes, that's not good. Static at Mallory will be at 5500RPM, and I guess you are up nearer 13 to 14k? That is a big difference and might explain the huge jump in the noise level. My R1 is 100db at 8500RPM at Combe, and only revs to 11.5, so hopefully I will be okay

Their static is 3/4 to the redline, they don't do the 5500rpm thing.

Yeah, mine was over by one dB but he let in through as he liked the paint job.
Tis a bit extreme way of testing.

They are a bit more lenient now, the old guy that previously ran the noise testing loved to fail everyone. They dont do ride by levels, but will black flag you if bikes get louder during the day. The instructors are mostly current/ previous racers who like nothing more than some one to one quck lap fun. The Radstock Rocket & Papa Luigi are always willing to share their huge knowledge of the track.

Sorry guys, haven't been on the forum for a few months 😅 think mine blows about 98db static at 5.5/6k with the baffle in and Dave has been there before on his thundercat and got through, so fingers crossed we will be ok.

Small groups will feel like an empty track especially compared to recent no limits days which have been a little bit crowded.

Will update how we go 👍
