Hi all. After the last escapade on my test which ended up with me almost dropping the bike I have been looking for some for my own bike to help it 'just in case'. The obvious choice is R & G but they reqiure the fairing on the bike to be drilled. Never gonna happen. Knowing me I split the dam thing, But Double hard mushrooms and LSL ones come with brackets that come out around the fairing. Are any of these any good? I know any mushrooms will only limit the damage so I hope that I will never have to use them but there is no point putting on useless ones that do nothing but look pretty. Any advise would be great. R&G mate are awesome as they mount straight to the frame normally through the top engine mounting bolt. The downside to this though is if you have a mega crash then they can f*ck the frame and twist it. But if its a big enough crash for this to happen then the bikes normaly totaled anyway.

Some other crash bungs mount to the fairing so if you just drop the bike then they leave a massive hole in the fairing, some other bungs have been designed to mount easy as to avoid cutting the fairing but are too weak to cope with an accident, and cause more damage then good.

My last 3 bikes i have used R&G and had to cut the fairing on 2 of them to get them to fit and tested both of those to and both have worked wonders.

If you ever have a crash and the bike slides down the road, that feeling you have and will never forget is the bit just before you pick the bike up to see what damge has happened,

R&G have helped minimise the shock factor after the pick up

yep,wished i had r&g's on my 916,would have saved the broken peg and meant my trackday could have continued.
i dont think i'd put any others on my bikes

If you're worried about cutting fairing then pay a bike shop to do it. Should only take around an hour so surly it's better to pay an hours labour than to screw up your fairing. We sell and fit R&G at Taylors 01460-72318.

I fitted my own and found that the way R&G say to do it is a bit pants and worked out a better way. I also fitted mine when I bought it before I took it home (bought my bike from work) cos sods law says that if I hadn't....

Here's a pic, I don't think they look too bad, although better without, but could save an insurance claim

R&G's for me, SP fitted mine for free but then I did buy them from there and my alarm at the same time. Also there are plenty on here that are good with a dremel (DynaMight and Bilinomates)

Some good advice there, SP fitted soem to my cbr6rr when i bought it an you couldnt have got a better fit,no cracks in fairing or giant gaps around the bung, sods law with my drillign abilities that i'd have cracked the side panels

If you do decide R&G and to do it yourself,cut the fairing that is. Start with a small hole and slowly increase its diameter till its in the right place and the right size. This is what i do and it has never failed. Dremmel or a nice small round file should do it. But if your useing the file go slow with it as not to crack the fairing.

Thanks for the help. I guess R & G is the way to go then. It will have to wait until after my retest as I will have to get it to the shop for them to fit it. No way am I going anyway near it with a dremel or even want to see it happening The bike came from SP but foresight wasen't working that day to ask them about them then. Like I said thanks again.

good tidy bike if its the one i think it was

R&G mate, dropped mine on a sloped drive & the only damage was on the bung.
I'd prefer to have the fairing drilled for the R&G( my a pro ) than to have the whole thing cracked & scuffed.

Tried to find a pic of my bike when it was dirty...couldn't Even in the pics I took from when we rode to princetown one wet Novembers day doesn't show the dirt, even though it was dirty, see viewtopic.php?f=37&t=80865 . But trust me it does get dirty. 3 winters ago I used the bike everyday for work (30 miles a day, it was f'ing cold ). And as for the early morning rides, ask billinom8s. The bike could do with a wax now but when you do it all day and all that.
