failed MOT

I failed my MOT today

My rear light works fine, except when I indicate which causes the rear light to blink ever so slightly. Apparently it's due to a bad earth. How can I sort it?

Find the bad earth

Wire the negative to the frame, thats the quickest way to earth it

But i would only do this to get it through the MoT, then i would find the cause of the problem

To start with, simply go through all the connectors and visible wires in the loom, check they are clean, secure, and no signs of splitting/chaffing

Work your way through logically from the tail light / indicators forward, checking all the time, until the problem stops

If you have no joy with that, it's time to dig out a multi-meter

Do humans have MOT's now then do they??

Where exactly is your rear light?

Is it the so called sun that you think shines out your A R S E and it blinks ever so slightly when you lift your arm to signal.

Earth prob is obviously the trainers your wearing

Take them off, sorted. Easy really

Cheeky buggers. I put the bike into Preston Garage today and after a couple hours of fiddling, they're non the wiser, they think it might be the regulater/rectifier. I just cant believe that i can fail an MOT on such a small thing.

what ever you do don't let them charge you for a new regulator / rectifier unless they are sure thats the problem. Anyone with half a clue will easily be able to test a reg/rectifier.

I would have thought that if it was your reg/rec then you would notice it at other times - if you fancy a ride down to plymouth i have thursday and friday off work and could take a look at it.

I'm with Andy on this one, don't let em swap the reg/rec till you know for sure its had it. cant see a reg/rec causing voltage to leak back through your tail light really either.

out of interest where did you originally take it for MOT? Ive gone to John T in Newton since getting mine back on the road and always found him good - fairly strict but fair with it.

oh yeah, really sorry but just realised i still have your chain splitter sat in my shed. Will try to drop it off over the weekend, and cheers again for the loan!!

Dude, get some wire, trace your wires for your rear light, run a new wire from bulb to fuse box (or whatever) and see if it works, thats what I usally do, till you find the wire thats faulty.
I doubt its the reg? Mines gone, and my bike just wont start, and if it does (bumping it) it runs like a bag of sh*t!
