Son's Poem

Post by Billi »

On the text news headlines tonight was an article about a 9 yr old boy who wrote a poem for his dad, Ned Kelley, who died in south devon on his bike. I'm not sure what angle the article was taking but the poem was extremely touching and if anyone knows this family, please give them a hug from me...XX

My memory of dad.

My daddy was super funny,

His cooking was bland,

Dad's staple diet of boiled potatoes.

Dad made a massive dinosaur, which I took apart,

He was clever at creating different models.

We played football and rugby in the rain,

We got very muddy,

All this was great fun.

We cycled around the lanes on our tandem bicycle,

And daddy put his feet on the handlebars and I had to do all the work of pedalling to the top.

Thank you daddy for being my dad

And I will always love and miss you.

Really touched by the poem, brought a tear to my eye. Those words weren’t cleverly put together by a poet, they came straight from a little boy’s heart. It struck a poignant chord with me, having lost a parent in a road accident when I was young, and also having one of my sons the same age as Kyran . Dying doesn’t frighten me, but leaving my 2 lads to grow up without their dad does.

Feel like selling my bike when I read stories like this, then I go for a ride and realise how much I love it and think to myself, don’t go to fast, don’t take unnecessary risks, the roads not a racetrack, and I should be okay. Many accidents are caused by other motorists, but we also have to accept that ….the more risks we take = the increased likelihood of an accident.

If there is a God, please look after little Kyran .

I have a boy, aged 7, and I feel the same,, I don't want to leave him without his mum. The poem shows what a child feels and we must not lose sight of that in our need for that next faster corner....

My thoughts go to this and every other family that has suffered a loss.

Take Care... XX

Very touching poem, just remember folks there are loads of idiots out there driving around, ride as if there is one stopped in the road around the next corner.
