Well I have just sorted my insurance out for the ZX6R £250 Fully Comp and £300 excess which I think is really good as I have only been riding for 3 years

That does seem good - who was it with :?

Mine is up for renewal in a week or so, and I think I might go fully comp - mine is £70 something this year TPF&T :D

Express Insurance, I have been with them for the last 3 years and they have also beaten or matched. The orginal renewal quote was the same as above but for TPFT but I told them I received a quote from someone else for the same details but fully comp and they changed it

2007 SP2 - Group 17.
Carole Nash, £238.19p - fully comp + UK and European breakdown recovery cover + legal liability cover for 3rd parties & passenger and damage to other peoples property + foreign travel mandatory insurance cover .
11 years no claims and £450 excess, discount for IAM full membership. Best price I could get.

Mines due April but I paid £305.38 fully comp, 11 years NCB (only 6 used), garaged, alarmed, datataged. Was 28 at the time. Protected NCB. With Hastings.

However my policy entitles me to ride any bike with owners permission. Also if my bike is stolen from out side my garage (lets say I'd been washing the bike and popped in for a cuppa) I don't have to pay double excess. Most over insurance companies do charge double.

Another thing to look out for is what time your bike has to be in the garage. My mate was offered a policy but was told his bike had to be in HIS garage between certain times no matter where he was. So what heppens if he's riden to a mates to stay the night :?

So when you're looking at insurance make sure it meets your need, don't just look at the price :D

Oh and always opt for legal cover. For an extra £20 or so I was glad I had it when the ZX6 got creamed.

Hi Mike

I got similar on my insurance - but, the 'garaging of it between certain times' is if the bike has been stolen within the vicinity of the garage you wouldn't be covered, ie didn't put it away for the night. I particularly asked the question on this issue, otherwise how would you be covered for touring for example?

Hope that helps!

Cheers, Smiler

Mine is based on being garaged and secured with a ground anchor and chain when at home. When touring it would still be covered. I think the clause regarding leaving it out for the night is fairly standard these days. However, I'm not required to have an alarm immobiliser and I haven't bothered fitting one, mostly people ignore them so I can't see the point really. Perhaps if I lived in Exeter, Plymouth or Torbay I might take a different view but out here in the sticks it doesn't seem worth it.

I also forgot, I have Smartwater on it too. BTW the cost of transfering ownership on Smartwater is apparently about £70 which is a bit of a rip off.

I would say that your price with Hastings is very competetive Mike, Mine is low but the reason for this is I'm 61 and have been biking on and off since 1962. It would seem there are some benefits from being an old git. :(

Unless hastings renewal quote goes up by loads this will brobably be the !st time I let a police carry on without shopping around. They were my insurance company when I had the accident on the ZX6 and were very good. The claim took 2 years but this wasn't down to them as I was tpft, I had a crappy solicitor which luckily closed down and I ended up with a better one :D, so was out of their hands.

Only problem is that we've sold one of our cars cos the wife doesn't need one for work and are gonna replace it with a scooter (I can use the car for tools etc when needed) but Hastings won't do multibike or let me use my car no claims for a scooter. Here's a list of what I would like from an insurance company

Cheap
Cover to ride any bike
Mutibike
Not to pay double excess if bike nicked within 500yds of home but not in garage
Bike only has to be in garage at night if at your home
Legal cover
12 months cover (some only do 10 with cars anyway)
NCB protection

Not a lot to ask and there are compaines that do some of them and companies that do others, but you try finding one that does all together

I've been with Carol Nash for quite some time now, everytime the renewal drops through the letterbox I do the ringing around marathon but no one seems to get near, or they're only a few quid cheaper which CN will usually match. Most of the time the renwal comes down. Besides for a few quid it's not worth the bother to change.
They were very good several years ago when the insurance company I was insured with went bust, CN sorted out a new policy, sent me the new certificate with no additional charge when many other brokers were just leaving their policy holders in the sh*t & telling them to take out another policy.
At the moment I've got a multibike policy that can take up to 5 bikes which I pay £269 fully comp for an SP2 & a VFR800 with 16yrs ncb, IAM discount (supposed to be 10%, but not sure it makes that much difference), & a £450 excess.

I'm not sure that the NCB protection is worth it. Some years ago I got caught in a scam whereby some scumbags staged an accident such that I was forced into a collision, it involves people in at least 2 cars then they teamed up so it looked like they were independent witnesses. They almost screwed themselves because one of them tried to suggest in court that my diesel Shogun could easily out accelerate a 2ltr Vauxhall, I was using my car not my bike at the time. They win the court case then go for the big payout in the civil courts claiming whilplash injury, I think they got in excess of £70,000. This sort of scam emerged about 15 years ago in the big cities and I have heard that it is starting to rear its head again now.

Anyway, we had NCP but all the insurance company did was load the premium with a huge surcharge thus negating the NCB. When we tried to shop around we found that the insurance company had spread the word and all other quotes had full no claims bonus but a similar surcharge.

Bottom line is that we had been paying for NCP for years but in effect it was worthless. I haven't bothered with it since.

Cheers Mike. Next time I renew I'll find out how much difference my NCB makes and how much to protect to see if worth it.

cheap insurance is a double edged sword on the one hand its nice that you can ensure a gixxer thou fully comp for not that much on the down side it means you are getting old!

Im with Carol Nash I stick with them because I think their European recovery package is good and they seem easy to deal with.
