Thanks everyone for there help
I have been doing alot of shopping around for insurance and have found that i can get insurance on a r6 blue and white (Gotta be my favorite bike) for around 680!!!

Dam im happy i have only ever used bennets and there are quoting me over 1200.

One last question, when i bought my GS500e i rode it home and for a week or two before i took it in to get it restricted.

Do you think its worth me picking up a r6 on ebay and not getting it restricted? I mean ive been told that the only way im gonna get in the shit is if i crash

What do you all think?

Cheers

Like with all things 'you shouldn't do' you've got to ask yourself is it worth it. You may be lucky and never get caught but there's this little law called 'sods law'.

I think 'sods law' states in this case

Don't fit restrictors - get caught.
Do fit restrictor - never get pulled or found out.

It's like sticking to the speed limit and never seeing a camara but the one time you go over flash flash.

So does the reward for not fitting outway the punishment :D

OR photoshop a dyno sheet that shows 33bhp. As far as i know, there is nothing they can do as according to the law its up to them to prove it is not restricted rather than you to prove it is. But im not sure, talk to jonny, he's the expert on these things

You are going to get a lot of people on this forum telling you that its a bad idea.

What do you think?

From a legal point of view you have a few concerns:

Insurance is the major issue. Most insurance companys wont cover you if they find out your bike is not restricted, but I have heard of a few that don't care. Of course thats only relavent to the situation. If find yourself in a situation that isnt your fault and/or the police arn't majorly involved then you are not going to get caught out. In contrast; if you mow down some old biddy that jumped off a pavement in front of you, you are likley to lose your liscence, among other things. (Assuming that you didn't drop some restrictors in it before the insurance company inspectors see it. )

If you are issued a Producer and the people at the DVLA see that you are riding an R6 and that you haven't "produced proof that your bike is restricted" you may be in trouble.

So to summerise, you should be ok if you dont do anything stupid and no-one does anything stupid in front of you, and you have written "proof" that your bike does not put out more than 33bhp.

BUT, you will be riding a 90 odd bhp r6 thats going to aching to raced........

you aint riding it right if you think the SV is slow, granted it isn't as fast or powerfull as some bikes but it is not slow, its all to do with how much you slow down for the bendy bits 8)
no modern bike is slow or fast as its all down to the rider :!: :!: :!:

but i bet i could outride rossi, if he was on a c90 and i had his motogp bike (okay maybe not his it would probably break down) but any modern sports 600....actually he probably would still win :(

but my point is, it is part to do with the bike not the rider, it does obviously help though

Well after alot of searching i decided to go for a r6 in blue and white. Cost me just under 3grand and the rest went on insurance. Im going to go and pick the bike up today (hopfully) but im just looking at the images on ebay and there is one thing that i cant get out of my head.

Is this number plate legal? It just looks really small to me

I meant on outright acceleration. The sv handles well and when I ride I avoid dual carriageways for the back roads. I am still an inexperienced rider but when the sv was not restricted for a few days waiting for a garage to receive restrict or kit I rode up a local road and my dad overtook me in his car. :o The 650s roll on acceleration isn't as good as some sports cars that are fast hence why I am saying it is quite slow in comparison.

Oh yes, You must get your r6 restricted ASAP. I had a mate ride it back since I have a restricted license.
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

Bear in mind that for the last two years Avon & Somerset Police have been running an operation in summer specifically targeting bikes. They stop you and ask to see your licence, if it's restricted they take you to the nick where they have a mobile dyno set up, and test your bike. If it's above the power you're restricted to they immediately impound the bike and do you for no licence and insurance (insurance not valid if you're not licenced to ride that power bike), on top of that you then have to pay a fee for the dyno run and a big release fee to get your bike back.

Chances are you may not ever get stopped, I haven't been, but I have had a lot of my customers come into the shop very distraught after getting done in this fashion. It's your risk........

no its not legal. even though its not piss takingly small a pendantic copper would still have you for it. (but its only a £30 fine at the moment, this could change though)

do yourself a favour and restrict it, you will be kicking yourself if you take the risk and get badly caught out.
