Taking Pillions... Yay or Nay

Post by DynaMight »

Well, I have a friend, who shall remain nameless, he has just passed his bike test and got a nice bike, around a similar time he also got a new girlfriend, so first thing he did was to take her out pillion, he says he enjoys taking pillions, although hasn't been out by himself properly yet.

I've been trying to explain to him that pillions are the spawn of Satan and should be avoided at all costs, I've offered to hack-saw off the pillion pegs but he's having none of it. In my opinion, taking pillions turns a bike into boring transport, although I haven't taken one in a few years :)

I guess what I'm asking is...Has he completely ruined his Summer? :)   Does anyone actually prefer taking a pillion over going for a ride by themselves? Is he putting the pussy on a pedestal :D

strip of the rear peg hangers and thow the rear seat away - problem solved. I bloody hate carrying pillions.

I think pillions should be restricted to gold wings and large bmws. Sports bikes and pillions do not mix!
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

well i think there are several things to take into account. First the sex of the pillion Fella NO lady YES, the seating position on a bike means that the afforementioned pillions nads will be closer to my rear end than they have a right to be,(leading to the thought that 'i hope thats his belt buckle sticking in my back'). On the other hand a leather clad lady snuggling in behind is something to be enjoyed. Size also comes into the equation a small to medium pillion doesn't make a lot of difference but a person of a larger build can throw you off balance when you forget they are on the back as you go barrelling into your favourite twisties. Lastly experience counts, an experienced pillion can help you, an inexperienced pillion is down right scary as they try to remain upright as you enter a bend or as i once experienced, one who leans the wrong way totally and scared the crap out of me.

just my thoughts :)

Not fused on taking pillions. If they are not riders then it gives them an opportunity and sense of freedom they can't get in a car. Most pillions i have taken out say what a buzz. Except her in doors who doesn't really enjoy it.

Don't make a regular thing of carrying pillions especially if going on a big rideout, but when you got a 12 yr old son keep nagging for a blast on the back then sometimes its hard to avoid, but then the prob there is he is so light it hardly effects the bike and you got to remember the poor little f*cker is barely hanging on

I agree with blimey.
As im on my bike every day, sometimes its nice to chuck a friend on the back and go for a nice pootle.seeing the big smile as they get off the back is great.Get off when youve stopped, that is :P .

Its also really good practice for smooth throttle/clutch control and gear changes...you know youre not being smooth enough when you see a pair of upside-down legs in your mirrors and get a helmet smack you in the back of your head! 8)

Before any of you dirty buggers ask,no i dont let my friends bash me round the head with their 'helmets'...
Bikeless again :/

I have to agree I take a pillion out regularly and love it, it also improved my solo riding to as it boosted my confidence cornering, just kept thinking if I made that corner at 30 with a pillion I could do it quicker and smoother on my own.

Do have to agree its all down to size and gender. Small fit females are great but having a wulrus on the back out weighing the front is a complete no go  As with Blimey I have a 9 year old son that is itching to get on the back which is a. going to cost a furtune to kit him out and b. make me worry like made that he is ok the first few times out.

As for taking blokes as pillions at least if you cant hear them screamin you know they fell off
Apparently I'm supposed to care!!

i got a single seat on my bike..no room for a pillion...also no room for luggage or shopping or my 8 yr old son, i don't like a pillion...but...i really do like to ride pillion, you know all that snuggle up type stuff..and the "ohh must come in close and grip harder you went round that corner sooo fast" girlie stuff..the comment about remembering how to ride smoothly tho has got to be the best one tho..cos bad habits are rife when you ride alone alot..but its still better..so i amone confused billi on that one :? :?:
