speak to adlebertz on here, he bought a sold as seen and so far its had over £400 worth of work done to it, new chain/sprockets and still needs new head bearings, plus he paid full whack for it.

This is true. Now know it's a very good idea to take someone along who knows something about bikes (being my first i didn't have a clue). But luckily billinom8s has been a great help. . The annoying thing was, said to Speed before I bought it "what's it need doing to it to get it in tip top order" and they said new tyre and a couple other things. I said how much and it was around £250. Not long after I find out I need a new Chain & Sprocket and Head Bearings. . Not impressed by them.

I'm pretty sure that a dealer CANNOT by law sell a vehicle on a sold as seen basis, and they Cannot sell a vehicle without a valid tax disk.

I'm off to the CAB website to find the relevant pages.

seem's I was talking crap, however the trader still has the sale of goods act to comply with.

The sale of Goods Act says any goods sold must be:
• of satisfactory quality
• fit for purpose, and
• as described
This means the car has to be in the kind of condition you'd expect. With a used car, however, you have to take into account the age and mileage of the car, and the price you paid for it.

If the seller pointed out defects before selling you the car, you can't complain about them later.

if you get sold a shitter you can still expect him to fix it after taking into consideration ^^^^^^^^^^^^ that lot

Also something to be wary of, Is a lot of dealers can get around the sold as seen by selling it to you as if they have scrapped it....Hence no come back on them.
Watch what parts they fill out on the registration docs

Buying a sold as seen bike from a bikeshop is a big no-no for me. If they're not prepared to give a warranty it must be screwed....

Yup thats what i would think - if a garage are selling it was sold as seen then there must be something up with it !!

they can, they sell it as not roadworthy and i think you sign a statement that you understand this, be careful but you can find some good bikes for not a lot of money if you're lucky

yep it comes with no mot or tax and sold as not road legal thats another way to get around the sold as seen side of things

im realy grateful for all the info u guys have given me, but since they have just abolished stamp duty tax for houses under 175k, i dont need to downsize my bike, and i will be keeping the r1!!

Just for fairness i thought i better stick up for speed.

Bought a ZZR1200 off them in Feb for a good price and it is excellent, it's never missed a beat, and I had great service from them.

It wasnt "sold as seen" mind, I tend to go with what was said before, if they dont like it it must be bad

I would definitely use them again

Been reading with great interest all the comments on buying sold as seen goods, this term means the dealer has to abide by warranty rules, but selling goods as fit for spares only they do not have to supply warranty with vehicle.
I have now sold my GSXR and have bought the R reg VTR from Speed for a very good price.They carried out MOT for me, it only needed rear pads and the lights sorting out and i will pick it up this Saturday. It also needs a bl***y good clean as well.

Interestingly I'm pretty sure this blue VFR 800Fi was in GT's Plymouth showroom back in Feb & was up for £2800 (or there abouts) as it appeared to have had a bit of a hard life
It seems to have gained in value since moving 50 miles up the A38

they do like to take a lot of gt's old trade ins but i thought they were usually cheaper than gt's.
andy sounds like youve got a good deal then but its not a sold as seen buy if its got a mot so you should expect that bit better service

I wasn`t knocking Speed, I was just talking in general about the terms garages use when selling bikes, cars etc.

Also in general dont you always pay more when buying from a garage over a private sale?? In which case the extra money is there because of the dealer facilities...Or am i wrong?
