L plates broke my bike!

Post by Milky »

Before i begin, I admit this was partly my fault but im gonna go ahead and have my rant anyway because this annoyed me.

At the moment Im only riding on a CBT, therefore i'v gotta wear those massive patronising 'L Plates' that couldnt be anymore humiliating than they are. I've stuck one on the back of my bike hangin of the reg but the front one...I have litrally nowhere, unless I trim it down, that i can stick it. The only place would be strappin it across my forks which would block the flow to be radiator. So..i did that. Today, I smelt burning, looked down and my water had gotten so hot it had burst outta the top of the system and was pouring down all over my engine. greaattt. ontop of that, the bike had began to over heat so when i'd turned the engine off , it wouldn't start again and stayed like that due to the battery that was now drenched in antifreeze. I then missed work having to wait for some clueless greese monkey my insurance sent out to tell me what I already new and gimme a lift home. haha

and that was all down to my god dam 'L plate' which aparently makes other drivers more aware of me and my riding. Yeh, that seemed to work when i was nearly crushed under a tescos lorry yesturday.

My conclusion. L plates are pointless. They do nothing but make you look like an idiot and get you points when they're not even fixed on properly! Anyone else had anything like this? Or am i the only 'Learner' here? ahha

Aww poor you. What it was to be a learner!

You could have put the l plate on the side of a fork so it doens't block or on top of the light in front of the clocks.

just take it as a lesson learnt... though an expensive one.

Are they still strit about front "L" plates ??

This day and age as long as you got one on the rear you can norm get away with it.

The roads are far too busy nowadays for Mr plod worrying about a front "L" plate surely

Agree with blimey, 90% of the mopeds at college either don't have a front L or a cut down one. they are too big to fit properly on the front of motorbikes.
All L plates do is patronize you and make everyone behind think they can bully you.
Just stick it out and get your test done. Then you can cut them up when blasting past em.

What bike do you have?

On my CBR125 I placed a sticky L plate over the screen on the front. I had to replace it twice due to rain and theives.

Amrik T
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

As i said some tie clips and stick it behind the light in front of the clock. Easy mate.

Personally I feel that L Plates are necessary, though they may seem patronizing they're there for a reason as in my experience (including myself) most learners can't ride for sh*t, and are more dangerous than safe.

But more importantly it's pimped out. Maybe the pimping is what causes it to overheat.
