Bike accident a few weeks ago.. Me :(

Post by ZXR400Lee »

Well.. hadnt posted on here because I've not been physically able too..

On 15th November was involved in an unexplainable serious motorcycle accident near home in St. Ives, Cornwall whilst riding my brand new Honda VFR800..

There is a short twisty road where cars have been randomly spinning off the road, a young girl died there about a month ago, anyway about 8:45am, I had an accident where I came off my bike mid corner and hit an on-coming car and then a cornish hedge/stone wall..

I have no memory from the day, I dont remember accident or anything.. The Police have some idea of what happened, it would seem that the on coming car possibly caused the accident by driving on the wrong side of the road.

I spent 2 weeks in intensive care, I have 12 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a bruised liver, 3 fractured vertibrates in my upper back and nerve damage to my left side which has affected use of my arm and leg..

I've been allowed home now, which feels good.. just have to make regular trips back to hospital.. The consultant at the hospital tells me I should be able to ride motorbike again around June/July time so I cant wait! Just wish Police would release my bike to my insurance company, then are still holding it for some strange reason?! :(

Anyway.. take it easy! I was very lucky..

Cheers

Just got off the phone with police officer in charge, yes, nearly midnight.. he woke me up.. to tell me that he is authorising the release of the bike tomorrow.. but to tell me that its destroyed, I expected that anyway.. too bad its now 7 months old.. if it was only 6 months old or less I'd get a new bike.. :(

Nevermind, at the end of the day, its only money, I'm just glad I'm still here..

Sorry to hear of the accident Lee, if there's anything I can do to help then let me know (any videos you wanna borrow etc have loads of 1990's GPs etc).

What road did it happen on? Just spotted the date, a group of us from here went to St Ives from St Just the following day.

Thanks alot for the offer Graham, but I'm all set up with PS3, Sky, xBox and my laptop.. :P

Just had a nice conversation with my insurance company and because my bike was brand new I should be able to get a brand new replacement bike, kicking myself for not getting GAP insurance so I hope I can get a new bike or I'll lose a shed load of money, the better I feel the more angry I get with myself about the money!

Accident happened on the A3074 between Lelant and Carbis Bay.. I couldnt pin-point exactly though because I no memory at all.. :(

Yep, know the road, we came through there the following afternoon, can't recall seeing oil/scrape marks on the road etc was it the Carbis Bay or Lelant side of the sharp bend (with the pub on the corner?)

Sorry to hear the bad news mate, glad you're mending well though and hears hoping you get a brand new bike!

The lack of memory is probably due to the brain being bounced around inside that big ol' head of yours. I wouldn't be suprised if you had a bit of concussion after. But lets face it, could have been worse!

take it easy and swift recovery mate.

Bad news chap - puts my little predicament into perspective

Speak to a decent personal injuries lawyer (White Dalton?) to see if you have a case for a claim - either from the other driver or the county council if there could be an issue with the road (speak to the policeman you've been dealing with and see if they can provide any additional evidence).

Even if they don't provide a brand new bike, you may find their pay-out is enough to buy a new one (even if it's "last years" model) from one of the big national discounters :?:

Either way, it's sound like you're doing well, so here's to a full recovery :D

Sorry to hear about your accident Lee :( but pleased that although your injuries are very nasty you have lived to tell the tale, I hope you mend quickly and are back on your bike before the summer comes around again :)
