Cornish rider in court for 170mph

Post by VTR »

It's not been a good time in the media recently for bikers & this won't be helping either :(

At that speed I think it's fair to say he may be having a stay at her maj's pleasure :|

to be fair though, doing 170 on a public road is monumentally stupid, i'm not exactly one for keeping to the posted limit, but i always try and keep it as safe as i can

Nothing about road conditions, whether he'd seen them & was running, etc., but once again, yes he was stupid ....... but big fine & ban, yes ..... prison - why? what has he really done that is deserving of a custodial sentence :?:

I think he will because it has to be a deterrant against anyone else going that fast, previously after a quick google there have been several jailed for speeding 130 plus so there is a precedent and once that happens then its virtually the same for everyone else commiting the same offence, one did get away with 180 hours community service and a 12 month ban, at those speeds you arent riding a bike, you are riding a missile travelling at nearly 3 miles a minute capable of taking out another car or maybe a bus if you make a mistake with innocent deaths being caused so perhaps they figure a custodial sentence is required to give pause for thought before twisting that throttle in the extreme. not saying i agree just trying to look at it from both sides..........

My thoughts exactly. Who did he hurt? Who died as a result of his actions? Was anyone even endangered by his actions? Or did he reach this speed on an empty straight road and pose no risk to anyone else?

I understand the arguments against speeding, some are justified but others are largely poorly informed. An experienced rider travelling at 170 mph on a well maintained ZX10R on the right road at the right time is less dangerous than a chav travelling at 50mph in badly modified shite heap Fiesta past a school at kicking out time, but would said chav got to prison? No chance.

Punishment should fit the crime in my book, and prison is way over the top for just speeding.

Well this fella appears to be going for fastest speed ever but he's not been caught yet :)

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... tuberider/

Before Tim Brady, the fastest speeding driver was Jason McAllister, who drove a BMW M3 at 156mph in 2003.

• The overall fastest speeder was Daniel Nicks, 37, who was arrested for doing 175mph on a Honda Fireblade motorcycle near Tring, Herts, in 2000.

info from the Telegraph so dont blame me if its wrong............. :D :D

Oh and this little gem from a government website:

The Government’s view is simple. It wants to cut the number of killed and seriously injured on our roads by 40 per cent for 2010. And it believes the best way to accomplish that is to slash speeds. Its message it that speeders will be punished with impunity.

i beleive this was the guy who's mate died on the a30 last year, there were two zx10r's racing the a30 with onboard videos filming themselves, unfortunately the guy had a big head on,killed himself and severely injured the car driver so guessing his mate will now be punished due to the severity of the accident. i may be wrong but it does ring a bell to me after re-reading it

That answers my other question, which is how the hell did the police keep up in order to clock him at 170 if they'd already had him at those other speeds through other limits, they would have to have been following at the same speed, but an on board camera tells all I spose.

I can understand why they're going to throw the book at him now, sounds tragic, but I still think prison's too harsh unless he caused the crash. I used to ride at speed with my best mate all the time, but that doesn't mean I was responsible for him if he had made a mistake and crahed.
