Never  you will never be able to match his years, skill, jobs, miles, talent, experience, bikes, knowledge thats he has in your mere exsistance on this planet unless you have been riding every single minute of every single day since you were born, without sleep and don't forget that has to be on the road with a full licence

And if you can, can you prove it?

Ah I see
So you've only been riding ONE YEAR after a 16 YEAR LAY OFF, and please don't call it a break.
No one wakes up one morning and thinks, Oh, I think I'll have a break from this, FOR 16 YEARS?
Blue wrote:God it gets hard when you have to explain this much
Hmmmm.
Not so sure.
I reckon if you told most people you'd be riding seven years, they wouldn't even think to ask if that experience was broken up with a 16 year off.

You were very lucky to have been employed as a long distance lorry driver at such a young age,.

I just ran this past a friend of mine who is a long distance haulage driver, and he told me that whilst the minimum age is 21, he's never heard of a company that would employ someone so young because of the insurance costs involved.

In other words, you're probably telling porky pie's

Do you think your friend meant that nobody nowadays would employ a driver at 21 because of insurance costs?? I wondered if insurance costs would have been as much of an issue 17 years ago as it is now? How long has your friend been a long distance haulage driver, out of interest..?

unlike you Stanley I don't need to lie. I started driving 7.5 tonners when I was 19 on my car licence and then did my HGV as it was then at the age of 21 as soon as I was allowed to. I started driving HGV's for a friend that ran an agency and I started driving non artics on parcel night trunks and then drag units and finally artics. Best you tell your imaginary friend to get his facts straight. Oh and I didn't wake up one morning and think I'll get a bike again, it followed an accident at work that changed my whole life  Do not try to judge people you have never even met and as you are so spineless you will never meet any of us either. You've had enough chances.

Now do us all a favour, Feck off and leave the rest of us to our real bikes cos as said I don't belive you have even owned a bike apart from a raliegh chopper

He's an old Army buddy of mine.

He took his HGV in the Army before leaving, 20 years ago, and has been doing it ever since.

He's 50 now, and started driving for a living aged 30.

Apparently, long distance haulage is the holy grail for HGV drivers, and no one get's in untill they've had many years of local driving experience.

I know nothing about this industry, but from what he said, you don't go straight into long distance haulage, and certainly not at aged 22.

Very unlikey I'm afraid.

Age, i have found is pretty much irrelevant with regard to HGV drivers and insurance, i own my own truck and all my insurance company is interested in is that the person driving is qualified and i have no limitations as to the age of relief driver i can use on the truck. Most companies tend to use a fleet insurance anyway, the whole fleet is insured for a certain amount not a particular vehicle or driver so as long as you are qualified its good enough. Also if all companies were to refuse to allow young drivers on their trucks then how would these people get the experience to drive trucks once their age has become acceptable for example 25 year old driver with four years experience or 27 year old driver with no experience, who would you want driving your £100,000 truck and trailer outfit ?.

I think you'll find that even with fleet insurance, there are stipulations in regard to the drivers who are allowed to drive on it.

I'm on a mission now.

I'm going to spend the next week becoming an expert on long distance haulage, and will be sure to post up my findings on here :D

So, just to be clear.

You are saying that a 22 year old long distance lorry driver is not uncommon ?
