Bike Mags...

Post by furry »

Ok well I ain't brought every single one, but I been doing alot of traveling on the train, just looked at my floor and foose me all I can see is mags!!!

Anyway Thought I'd give a quick review of what I thought of them...

Bike:
Pretty much all talk about new bikes but it's a good view of what the bikes have to offer, mag is padded out with some useful odd's n sod's, but a fookin crap thingie in the back about the Goldwing, I mean it's a piece of s**t who cares!!! LOL useful section in the rear on most new and used bikes, worth a quick look as a starting point if your after some new Metal!

Motorcycle:
Well ya feel this mag needs a bit more "get up n go" but it's got reviews on all sorts of bikes like Daytona650, Ducati S2R(which everyone is going on about, but I think ain't really much cop) R6, CBR6RR, BMWK1200GT,SV1000S, Ducati Monster, Yam MT-01 (anonther bike that everyone ranting about but I think looks like a lego kit LOL) This mag as you guessed, mainly bike reviews, I brought it as it prolly gives the best review of the New Daytona650, rest of it ok but bit boring reading about bikes you don't give 2 hoots about cos every other mag already been there and got the T-Shirt

Performance Bikes:
Well this is the underdog, I never normally buy this mag, but I was running out of things to read this month, and I have to say, for a bike that looks like it's all sports and balls, I'm actually quite impressed...
Really interesting writeup about how engines came about and work in bikes, setup info for RSV1000, good info about making ya older model good etc, and it also has a seperate little book showing readers bikes and what they done to em etc, I have to say, when I first saw the cover I thought "oh a nother superbike mag, aload of testicles" but this mag actually was a pretty good read, and got useful stuff in it, nice one lads!

RIDE:
Well this is one of my Fav mags, Good guide in it on how to sort your bike out after the winter riding has fooked it up, Info on Advanced fuels, realistic and informed reviews on new bikes, and other models, also a nice bit on TL1000S, RSV-R and ducati 916, always full of reviews of odd's n sods, so ya bound to come across something in there that's of use to ya, keep up the good work chaps!

StreetFighter:
Free calender of birds allmost neekid over shiney modded bikes, this mag never really been my cup of tea, I'm all into modding bikes and wun-off's, but most of them are townies who just fosse up perfectly good bikes like GSXR's etc. If your bored (like I was) or the mrs won't let ya have full on porn mags, then maybe this is for you, only thing I found it useful for was the adverts of performance places, which came in handy, it's a bit sad when you find a mag more useful for it's adverts than it's actual content, but there ya go!

Superbike: (With free DVD with Jan Issue)
What can I say, the Mag itself is pretty shat, All new bikes reviewed in the eyes of townies/muppets who obviously ain't real bikers, but for some reason were allowed to get their hands on them!!! The DVD just rounds it off, fookin awful shows how thick they all are they talk s.hit throughout the whole bleady thing, about as useful as a fully dressed biker with no bike, infact I think that's prolly what they all are in real life!

Used Bike Guide:
Well, If your into 2nd hand bikes like me, buying this mag every month is a religion, has to be done, I've renamed it the "Used Bike Bible" it's that good, before you even think about buying a 2nd hand bike, get your mitts on this, doesn't matter if it's the latest copy or not, the pages of bike info that it shows every single month gives you a really good starting point on 2nd hand bikes, and gives you a few tips like "the Carbed version of the SV650 is only worth £1500, where as the injected version in good nick is worth £2200 plus" A+ 5-Star rating, top mag!!!

I get BSH mainly because it gives you loads of rallies to go to, and some times there are some good features in there. Never find many in there for down south though, those I have to rely on word of mouth or SW Biker Guide.

I guess Im not a real biker....Bike, ride etc bore me to tears.

Fast bikes or Superbike for me - mainly because they make me laugh. and have decent BSB WSBK and GP coverage and rider insights.

Yes Fast Bikes is the one for sports stuff and general irreverence, not that I'm any judge, I still get the Beano.

Bike & Streetfighters for me....Superbike etc try to tell you the big differences between last years and this years models, which arnt such big differences. Shame there are so many crap mags out there. I like to see some of the engineering on the bikes in Streetfighters and at least its different, but some of the bikes are just awful, Bike seems to get the mix right and covers some older bikes too.

I only tend to buy bike mags if there is a good free gift with them

Don't bother otherwise.

Find the interesting stories on the MCN Website anyway 8)

lol intresting to see what peeps like though, I didnt get BSH this month, forgot to say, also a good mag!

Like I said the one that suprised me when I got it was Performance Bikes, I thought it was just gonna be anonther Superbike mag, full of crap reviews done by townies etc, but actaully it was a really good read, kept me happy reading on the train for quite a while :D

I think the ammount mags cost these days, it's a shame to see alot of them covering the same content, like which new bikes are best etc, at the end of the day, their all going from the same info that the manfs shove down their necks at the international bike launches, and to be honest, with the exception of say the new kazi 636 and Daytona 650, alot of the new bikes just don't stand out as being intresting or different to me.

MCN, I just find boring these days, but I will admit I find their website useful for info, so it's a halfway house :)

I think at the end of the day, what makes a mag good to me, is if I find it "Useful"...

Others might want to read lots about GP races bla bla bla, but doesn't interest me really, I don't go out and buy a bike just cos it does well in the racing world...

What I do look for is content on machines past and current, tips and tricks, cos even someone whos as mad and into bikes as me doesn't know it all, and reviews from real world bikers who have brought something, or done something etc.

Anyway so come on the rest of ya, what bike mags do you read and why :)

why the constant derogatory references to "townies"?

Your not jealous or something because you live in some backwater shithole are you ? :)

ok change that word to "common muppets" or something then :P

And well I am in Swindon, which is full of townies, so what do ya expect!

If I had my way I'd live in the countryside somewhere, but need to finish my degree first, as at the mo, living for free at my old mans :P

Anyway so back to the topic, what mags ya read and why!
