Sorry for the late reply.

Are you going for the SMC or the SMR.

Both are good fun but a long way from a gixer.

Reading Adam's other posts, I think that's the general idea. :)

Will put the fun factor back into your riding, guessed you saw the other weekend you don't need a race rep to have fun.

You may find the single a little limited if you need to cover distance but fantastic fun around our area.

I had a Prestige model on loan from JD racing (660 I think), it had 40miles on the clock & I rode it back from Saltash (running it in) in the pouring rain & it was bit of a pain - especially as I was hoping for the 950SM to use!! Took it out during the following evening in the dry, did quite a few miles chucking it around & loved it.

Thanks for the offer Adam, I did get to borrow a 990SM when I had my last service.

TBH, if you're trying to save money, I don't think the KTM will be the answer. Mine eats tyres quicker than my previous bikes (GSXR1000/Fireblade), plus the servicing is a little regular & expensive (valve checks every other service). Insurance isn't an issue for me (cos of where & I'm old) but I wouldn't imagine the 950SM is any cheaper for you at 18/19.

You'll probably like the SM once you've got past the vibes & different riding position but bear in mind the running costs if it's a saving you're after. Personally I preferred the riding position & handling of mine to the SM not to mention the extra power.

yer my insurance is 300 quid cheaper:)

and my tyres at the mo last only a couple of months cus i do lots of miles,
also as i want something with less top end the sm would be better than the duke.

basically i need a bike that will do-

lots of miles without being uncomfy
comfy with pilion and a few bags,
slow top end but fun on back roads,
and capable of a good thrashing every once in a while.
