Powder Coating swing arm....

Post by Varcon »

Hey guys, wanna get my swing arm power coated soon, and possibly the wheels too (if funds allow!).

Wheres the best place to go in the Exeter area ?

And also, with regards to removing the swing arm, is it best just to use some ratchet straps and support the frame from wooden struts along the roof, or is there a better way ?

Thanks!

Make sure u watch out for your plastics if you go for the hanging from the roof method. Not sure on coaters in the exeter area though.

first choice finishes in exeter. There is a powder coating thread on here somewhere. Give them a call, pretty sure a swing arm is £20 and a set of wheels is £50. Don't forget to remove all the bearings tho :-)

There are ways around it, like shoving lots of rags into the bearing recess's but they won't gurantee the finish if the greese does leak out on to the paint and spoil the finish.

If you do go down this route make sure you repack the bearings with plenty of greese after though

I've just taken out my swingarm to do the same - I've got an 02 ZX6. Loosened off all the bolts while on the sidestand, then used axle stands under the frame below the swingarm mount, then removed the wheel, the brake hose clips and then the swingarm bolt.

I'm still in 2 minds as to whether to strip it & paint it, or send it for powdercoating...
