05 ZX636 vs Daytona 650 pilon comfort, reliability..

Post by petko17 »

Hi there, after finaly passing my DAS and selling my Bandit 650 its time to buy a new bike ( well used :) and my choice came to two
my all-time favourite Daytona 650 and 2005-2006 model Kawasaki ZX6r 636. I had ride on both, liked both.
Im trying to find out, as my gf wants to join my as a pilon for some trips, which bike will be comfier and also more reliable, ( and cheaper to service, to maintane, repair, etc) as i read lot of forums and tests on internet in magazines but i think the best will be to hear (read) it from someone that actually owns the bike.

I will be gratefull for any advice for what to look for when buying one of these bikes or any useful informations
thank you

kawasaki everytime.

I have only ever known 2 650 owners and their bikes were in the workshop or their garage due to not running most of the time.

The kwaka has reliability, perfrmance and to a degree comfort. You can get gel seats for gthe pillion if needed tho.

Kawasaki for me.. :D

Have you looked at K4/K5 GSXR600? I found the K4 GSXR600 alot more comfortable than the 2005 ZX636.. I tried both on the same day.. 8)

Go with what you want and don't take a pillion, will save you loads of money in the long run... make her walk :-D

Agreed, besides they all think it's a great thing to start with and after that?

Well either a) they love it and start to learn themselves or b) hate it and never go near the thing again.

Get the bike you want as more than likely it'll be around longer than the gf, oh and I second the GSXR 600 k5, I'm 6ft 2 and can peddle it around the track and roads quick enough...

from motorcycle usa
"The GSX-R seems to be slightly conflicted. It has the cushiest seat and the most protective fairing, yet it has the longest reach to the bars and the most rear-set pegs. Its stretch to the clip-ons might work well on the track (stay tuned), but they place too much pressure on a rider's wrists for street situations"

and i always though that this 04-05 gixxer is too much track focused, as iam looking for as smooth and comfy ( yet it has to be sportbike) bike. I hear only good things about 05 zx6r but never really thought about gsxr600. Im not really in to 0-60 and performance stats because this is going to be my first sport so im sure i wount be able to use even 70percent of the power ( more like 10 percent  )

i will be happy for every bit of advice
thanks guys...

btw my budget is £3700top

why not just go out and ride these bikes and make your own opininon ?

as has been said before, u are taking opininons from strangers and in all fairness when it comes to something as crucial as comfort, only you can decide

Unfortunatly no matter what a 600 sports bike is going to be track focused, it's what they're designeed for.

Can see a gixxer being a bit on the small side for a fat American riding in country without any corners but I had no problems riding mine on euro tour which took in Spain and most of France.

Like its been said loads of time you have to go ride the bike to decide rather than relying on what a magazine or your mate down the road says.

Ive been devon to kent and back and peterborough to devon and back numerous times and the gixxer is a pleasure to ride. But it depends what you want the bike for.

All of the newish 600's are pretty much hardcore track focus bikes... 8) and your pillion will be extremely uncomfortable unless he or she is very tiny!

Go and try them out, all of them..

I'd probably recommend the GSXR600K4 because I rode it straight after riding the 05 ZX636 and it was so much more comfortable.. your sat more in the bike rather than on it if that makes sense.

You could go older.. look at 2002/2003 ZX6R A1P.. best of both worlds.. you get the 636 motor in the older style 'bigger' ZX6R.. also look at Honda CBR600F, or a Fireblade..

Try them and choose.. you either was to hoon around or go long journeys with a passenger.. its hard to find a bike that does both, esp. in the 600 range.
