Biker hurt in hit & run - info needed

Read this and my first thoughts were unprintable ... then I figured that maybe someone here might be able to help so......

A 17yo biker has hit by a van that was overtaking a stationary bus - van didn't stop. The poor lad has lost the lower half of one of his legs It happened on the B3153 at Pitney Hill (Somerset) and the van was heading to Langport at about 5pm on the 10th (last Tuesday).

The police are appealing for info about the van which sounds distinctive :

The van is believed to be a white Mercedes Vito with gold or green markings. Its offside wing mirror was broken off by the impact and found at the scene. The front offside of the vehicle is probably also damaged.

absolutely awful not even the decency to stop. sounds as if maybe the driver of the van not insured or have other issues with the van for not stopping at the scene. if anyone knows the young lad involved and he needs legal advice then please feel free to contact me. I realise this is probably the last thing he is thinking about but even if police cannot trace the driver he can still bring a claim through the MIB, Motor Insurance Bureau.
