B.P.V

Post by gazaR1 »

First of apoligies to mrs smiler for missing her rideout, and simon & co for missing pub meet.
A couple of weeks ago i started getting dizzy spells,by the weekend of the rideout they were really getting bad,so i stayed in bed all weekend, hoping a good rest would clear them up.Monday at work wasn't to bad,but on tuesday got so bad allie took me to hospital. There diagnosis was Body Postion Vertigo, doctor didn't know much about it,but gave me some tablets.By the weekend i was no better,so saw my own gp on moday, and after an e.c.g. and thorough medical, was told it could be B.P.V. or a virus.I was signed off for this week, had blood test results back today all ok there, but because its not getting any better i,m getting a bit worried now.
anybody had anything like this :?:

Three people I know of (a lecturer whilst at college many years ago who collapsed in Manchester airport, and in more recent times two family friends) have had a condition which affects the balance, but not sure what the medical term is ...... basically it (is an infection/condition? which) affects the small bones in the inner ear which means the body loses it's natural sense of vertical/horizontal.

In all cases it was not a quick fix - they were all in terms of weeks/months  In the more recent case she basically had to re-learn to walk, etc., ...... she was unable to walk in a straight line, explaining it as going round drunk - i.e. she felt she was fine, but kept crashing into things like she was on a rolling ship (we did try to tell her it was her natural blood/alcohol ratio that caused that   )

I beleive there a couple of support groups for these things out there. Here's hoping your case is not too serious  :D
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Handle stressful situations like a dog - If you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away

sounds like something that a woman at kims work has, like moose says, it sounds like the old inner ear infection.

funny how the body works, friend of mine had a rabbit with it once, it used to hop around in circles with the side of its head pressed to the ground.

get well soon, and don't take no for an answer !

Gaz, no apologies needed matey!

Don't you dare feel guilty sat at home, you couldnt possibly drive like that could you?

The whole 'ear infection/BPV' thing sounds familiar (mate had something similar) - hope you're feeling better soon xx

Try treating for BPV first, you haven't mentioned any hot feelings or pain so I would tend to lean away from an inner ear infection.

Antihistamines can help relieve the spinning sensations apparently.

There is something called 'Epley's Manouvre' which can be performed at home, here's a link to a you tube video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqokxZRbJfw

Or I'm sure there are written instructions somewhere. It's all about getting the little inner ear bones back to where they should be. You haven't got it too bad, i did have a patient who was constantly vomiting and had to keep his head fixed stationary.

Oh by the way, the manouvre should be done with the help of a GP or physio, if you do it and damage yourself, its not my fault. Just thought i'd cover my arse!

good luck with it gaz,i spoke to my physio about it this afternoon to see if he could help and from my comments he said it sounded like a ear infection/virus. apparently almost all of our balance controls are done from the ears but he said it should be something you can recover from but you might need to retrain the brain on how to walk properly etc, if your struggling with simple things get your doc to recommend you to your local physio

Moan, moan, blummin moan - got to be a bloke! :)

Honestly, if it's not man-flu when you've only got a sniffle, it's BPV when you had one too many sherberts.

And if it really is a case of the small bones in the inner ear needing rebalancing, I've got a nice piece of 4x2 that'll get the job done lovely!

Seriously, hope you feel tons better v v soon.

Hugs...
