I fancy a bash at Nurburgring, if you have done it........what is it like and was it worth the trip.

Yes and Yes.

Don't go on if its abit wet...

In a car its only a 12 hour trip from say Southampton give or a take an hour or 2 on stops.

I went Via Holland to visit family then Flew down the Autobahn for a couple hours then Bingo, the Ring and the surrounding roads are mentally fast.

130mph corners.

I think it's fair to say that the Mazda driver knew his way around, he wasn't taking any prisoners through the traffic... the bike riders were far more polite, but then again, if they got it wrong they stood a much greater chance of going home in a box...

Had to laugh at the black estate car grass-tracking just before 8 mins

Mazda were always going to pick someone who knew his way around and I'd agree the bike riders were much more cautious....unlike the black estate, an off track detour normally ends in tears.

Its 21 euros a lap now.......how many could you expect to do in a day???

best time to ride the track is before midday between 8 and 10 was clear,just a few cars .all the fast bikers are out then perfect learning curve,plenty of quick old boy germans to tag on to.oh may sound like a crazy tip but glance at the tree tops to tel you track direction,lots of fast blind brows cost it up i would for sure go again..

yes 3 of us done it at the end of our europe trip and it was fantastic experience, it was the first time we had ever been on a track and we really enjoyed ourselves, done it on road pressure in our tires as we didn't know any difference

done a 9:40 on the second lap and pleased with that, a couple of us are doing a trip in september to munich to do ocktoberfest (beer festival) and planning on doing the ring on our way home i will put a proper thing up in the next couple of days when i've got more details it might interest some of you guys

nothing prepares you for the roughness of that carrousel though

done it a couple times.

I can do it around 8 mins and a few seconds btoG before I took the stopwatch off my triple clamps for fear of necking myself. get under 8.30 and you generally stop getting overtaken by any cars. last time I was there the only things that over took me once I got past the warm up was a few bikes, you have to put your neck on the line a bit though.... and car wise we are not just talking crappy suburas and saloon BMW's- thats well driven GTRs, GT3's, caterhams and ariel atoms you'll maybe be up against on a busy day and they take a fair bit of effort to get past.

you really need a decent bike and an ability to ignore armco and blind crests.

Not for me on a motorbike... I'd be too worried about having an accident in a foreign country, unable to speak German, void insurance at the ring too.. Looks a bit chaotic in places.. with the mix of faster and slower riders/drivers.. I just dont have the riding ability to ride quickly around that circuit on a ZZR1100.

I'd love to do it in a car though!!!!

Fully road legal and insurance as it’s a “public highway”, although it’s a closed road. They have also brought in rules about accessories meeting TUV standards, like harnesses and roll cages.

Some insurance excludes the Ring by name. Others are a bit more vague but still effectively exclude it.

Police will attend serious accidents and make arrests and people who leave the scene of an incident. Even if an accident happens latter from debris left on the track.

They peruse anyone who damages barriers and the record is apparently €15,000. If you breakdown, recovery is by ADAC only. I got charged €185 when my chain broke.

Don’t do it in a hire car or you’ll get a worldwide ban by the hirer and a penalty charge.
