Out with a mate on his 954 Blade on Saturday, we were riding sensibly enough, due to my fuel light being on (luckily) but we were speeding, on an A road.
Anyway, I saw a second light following us and made out a blue and white bike so just thought a loner had tagged along.
3-4 miles later, I am surprised to have a face full of Police BMW bike point me in to a side turning!
So all 3 of us pull up, he wants a word etc etc and I think, oh, this stranger has been pulled with us on his GSXR, only for me to clock the bike as I got off mine to notice blue strobes above his indicators. YES, he was Old Bill, on a 58 plate GSXR-1000 complete with camera poking out of the bottom of the screen and recording gear on the tank!
BOLLOCKS.
Surprise, dis-appointment and worry all flashed round my head. The guy had followed us for a good few miles and had a couple of things to say, like me gunning it early from a 40 into a National Limit etc. Said he was well able to take us to court, but as we were riding sensibly on the whole, allbeit above the limit, he would just give us 3 points and £60 on the spot. I put my hands up and apologised for the excess speed straight away, just glad we weren't having a silly 10 minutes!
He made us watch the video from his bike and he did clock up 99mph behind us briefly on one open stretch, so he could easily have lost us our licences...
Lucky and unlucky all in one day I guess.
They said that the Police have all had orders from the government to hit bikers HARD this year "to cut down on reckless riding and deaths"
Gave us a ticking off about small plates, no baffles, no reflector etc and said "get them sorted boys"
FOOD FOR THOUGHT, THEY ARE OUT THERE AND THEY ARE GOING TO PUNISH FAST RIDING AND ILLEGAL PARTS.
Be careful and if someone starts tagging along, back off and please don't be egged on to losing your licences by them.
