Quick one, pretty sure a good portion of my laptop hard drive is [Censored], it will load windows on occasion, will always load in Safe mode. Hard drive is making some very nasty noises, grinding and beeping! Trying to back up everything to my external hard drive and it says that it will take a week to complete . Then crashes and all sorts, missing files bla bla blaaa. Its taking forever. Everything runs badly right now aswell. Is there a program that can just cut through the stuff thats no good (already ruined) and transfer what can be saved to my external hard drive?

Try pushing F8 when you turn the laptop on which should give you the advanced start up options, select safe mode with comand prompt, when windows loads type this into the comand prompt "chkdsk [volume]:\ f" this will try and fix errors on the hard disc. if that don't work try slaving the hard drive to another PC to get your data off.

nice one. I ran chkdsk. It took about 2 hours! It gave me quite a few error messages . Didn't fix it either. Put a new hdd in now and its all working nice . Will try connecting it to another pc soon. Thanks for your help bud!
