what bike?

im just having 2nd thoughts.

iv always loved the r6 and its my 1st choice but with a £2000 budget they are around year 2000

other options are

sv650 (full fairing)

or

gsxr 600

any advice is brill

I have a '99 R6 that'll be going in a few months...

SV's power wise are totally different bikes to GSXR's and R6's, cheap on insurance though (sports tourers)-def. go for the fuel injected if you do (03>). I might know of a half faired '05 model for sale 25kish miles i think.

stick with a nice tidy r6 like the one that janners mate offered you,ive seen it and it is very tidy also much better than a gsxr and in a different league to a sv650.

Mate obviously i dont know you yet but the key words i reckon are "my first choice" something in you loves them then thats what you will be happiest with! I would not go past a gixer for all the money in the world as they are my first passion even though there are some pretty decent other makes out there....though i cannot think of any at the mo.....(ducks for cover)

Go with what you love, if there are any small shortcomings your passion for the bike will totally reason them out!

Yeap like I say I am Gixer born and bred! And to steal someone elses strap line in here. cut me in half and I do have gsx-r written right through me but I would be lying if I did not say I did have a sneaking respect for the R's... Gixer lads on here will prob now disown me before I have even been on a friendly....

Your a biker so if you go for second choice it will always be just that .. regardless of what is technically better etc. etc. to you it is second choice. Dont think with either of your heads mate.. thats where the trouble starts... go with your heart!!!!

The R is a good choice of bike, it's a comfy bike to ride, goes well, easy to work on, looks good, cheap spares and will teach you loads when you get used to it. I have only ever ridden a gixxer once and have to say I didn't really like the riding position, but that's just me.

If you are looking for performance don't bother with the sv, they are very safe.

As you said it's your first bike, not your last. They are like women, you might have an idea of the one you want but when you do get a few rides it just doesn't suit your style.

My number 1 choice was always a Duke 748 but was out of my price range at the time i was looking for my bike i ended up buying a kwaker 6, My heart keeps telling me i want a Duke but now i have the Ninja im glad i bought it for my first bike.

What im saying is if you buy something else your always going to want your R6 good luck with your 1st choice not your last mate

only thing id say currently riding an SV is they are very very forgiving if its gonna be ur first bike it may be easier to start on something smaller and work up unless its not ur first bike and iv misinterpreted wot uv sed in which case ignore everything iv just sed! lol

I decided that was what I wanted & that's what I got. Nearly 2 years and 10,000 miles later no regrets. Mines a 2000 on a W btw

If its SV territory you're in, you can do worse than a hornet 6 tbh, forgiving but a cracking ride if you want it to be!
