So there I am, cruising home early monday morning, when I loose drive at the back wheel????

Clutch in, negotiate several lorries to get to hard shoulder and back end locks up as i stop, wtf????

Turns out the nut holding my front sprocket on has decided to go walkabout, with the sprocket shuffling off the splind shortly after

Luckily no major damage, and the sproket was trapped in the front chain cover, but the nut was long gone....

was given the option of being taken to a bike shop at South Petherton who MIGHT have a nut to fit? I only have roadside so i would have still been stuck there if the bike shop couldn't help, so I took the expensive option and upgraded to relay cover, £109 later I'm sat in a truck on my way back to Redruth

So, one new Lock nut later, everything is back to normal but my wallet is one hell of alot lighter

The worst part about it, for the last 3 yrs everytime I'v changed my chain and sprockets, the front sprocket nut has had to be undone with a air powered impact driver, even a very long bar has failed to shift it, and we've always done it up with the same impact driver and tab washer to lock it, so how the f**k did the nut just decide to undo itself

By the way, how is your bike Sheila? Did the problem persist on the way home or did it fix itself?

Did you use thread lock the last time you replaced your front sprocket?

'tis a bloody crap method Suzuki persist in using - just one effing big nut - why can't they follow others lead and have a retainer that bolts to the sprocket

My TDR did the same last autumn on the road to moretonhampstead,the tab washer broke,luckily we found the nut and sprocket in the road and the remains of the tab washer, the shock adjuster spanner un de the seat fitted the nut tightened it up used a screwdriver and a stone managed to knock a bit of the tab washer over and got home ok, but i will always fit new tab washers now , also there was a spacer that moved and let oil piss out, luckily there was a guy with a bloody great adventure bike with us that had some oil in his panniers to top it up with

Interestingly i couldn't buy the tab washer as Suzuki have discontinued them , they now sell a pre lock-tighted locking nut instead. Methinks its not un common for the tab washer to break...........

Anyway all sorted now and rode to work as normal this morning
