A Pheasant Trip !!!

I recently had a very close encounter on the roads here in Devon with a pheasant, he or she and me, narrowly escaping a collision at some considerable speed.

I appreciate its very subjective but what would be the likely outcome of such a collision ? I feel a small bump and have to wipe the feathers from my visor or more serious ?

At worse....Could knock you out or could smack your helmet and disorientate you enough to go veering off somewhere you didn't want to go.
Could damage the front of your bike (screen /headlight)and cover you in guts and feathers.
Could smack you in arm chest and give you a good winding.

Having seen the broken headlight and dented wing in a Saab car that hit a pheasant at speed the consequences could be bad i think

I met one last week too, but not going fast! They're a bloody liability - my dad was involved in a crash where the people coming the opposite way swerved to avoid a pheasant on a bend, lost control, went up the bank, flipped & landed upside down on top of my dad's car. My dad was ok, the other people were not & the bird carried on its way. I would say on a bike, try & avoid hitting one, but they're tricky buggers & unpredictable...

Whilst out riding 'a lot of' several years ago ( ;) ) i encountered one on a devon backroad. I tried to encourage it to fly away from my wheels by hoisting it with my foot, it felt like i had kicked a concrete block! This action not only hurt my foot and ankle but also just made the stupid bird fly up and hit me in the chest, where it decided wild panicked flapping of its wings was the order of the day

I managed to keep control of the bike and grab the bird, not easy, then throw it clear of me and the bike. My ankle was sore for several days after and i was lucky it was an empty back road as i was swerving a fair bit while fighting the stupid bird. Since then I have decide I would rather run it over next time than try to be nice and save their scrawny necks. Rather a dead bird than a dead me !!!!

I found this rather humerous but it does highlight how unpredictable the situation is, thank you for your responce.

There was a picture on a few forums a couple of years ago of a bloke who hit a bird whilst riding ..... it shattered his visor, broke his nose, he had a pair of black eyes, whiplash and various other injuries .....

I had a blackbird fly out the hedge on me. When I got to motorcycle city in Newton Abbot I found said blackbird cooked around my downpipe on my VTR
