Hello all,
Does anyone own/ wear a tinted visor (as in silver/ iridium style finish over the smoked or dark tint), and know how I would stand with the old bill? I know that night use is a no no and read some directive saying that during daylight if it allows less than 50% light through this is also naughty tell off time. Just worndered if anyone's been pulled over this matter?

PS has anyone tried the after market non manufacturer ones from ebay for a Shoei lid?
I have both a dark visor and a iridium one. As far as I know the only road legal visors can only be up to 25% tinted. This is clearly marked by e mark. Police do have meter to test that 75% ambient light will admit through it. I have heard that the old bill are pretty fair and if stopped will take a look if it looks too dark. If you have clear then you can just change it over but as long as its not being used in dark or poor lighting conditions then they probably wont bother.
I carry a clear on me when out usually but wear a dark visor cos if anything else its a great set of sunglasses!
I tried an aftermarket Iridium visor for my Arai.Went back to dark tint and wouldn't bother with Iridium again. Once they start getting marked and scratched they let through little coloured starbursts of light and I found it annoying.The plastic parts that were screwed to the visor were crap aswell ,but I don't know whether your Shoei visor has any to worry about or not.Chances are old billl wouldn't take any notice with any of them.

The Shoei just has a clamp mechanism on the helmet itself and the visor has lugs molded onto it, don't like the ldea of random light effects but may give it a try for 30 sheets it's not too much I guess. Just seems strange as their appears to be no limit for sun galsses when some of those limit your peripheral vision! If I do get one will poss by a visor bum bag like you said bullet then I'm prepared and I can put my purse in it!

I can second that, still got my old quantum f and the iridium visor has had it. I think personally they are a bit old hat nowadays compared to 10-12 years back. I got black visor on my shark lid now.
On my old Shoei I had a dark tink black visor, and a gold iridium visor on a medium tint, and I'd say they lasted about the same amount of time before requiring renewal - about 5 or 6 years I can't say I noticed any worse "starburst" issues with the iridium than the dark tint (they both did it) as they aged and got scratched/marked from road grit, etc.
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

I have a black visor on mine - damn black, never ride without it. it stops folk seeing that i am either asleep, lost or scared. I do own a clear visor but to see it fitted is like seeing a pig fly. generally if i get caught out and it's dark i flip the visor up and ride like that.
Old bill aren't that bothered during the day, it's just if they catch you at night with it down you should expect a talking down too.
i tried an iridium visor, but one scratch or fat bug graze and it's fooked.

Did hear tell of a chap who got given a ticket by an overzealous copper for having iridium tinted visor, was told they are not legal due to the reflective surface could potentially distract other road users, eg. sun reflections etc. But then he was being busted for speeding (only just) and the copper went round the bike and picked up on everything he could find, plate size, small indicators, etc. etc.
Oh yeah, out of interest the copper also mentioned that due to the fact that the rider was wearing colourful full leathers that matched the bike (sports bike), that was what brought his attention to him, as he looked like he would be more likely to be speeding in the first place?

Good job their are no other distractions like mobiles, kids makeup, smoking etc etc etc!! but I guess that is another thing! and It's a good job only people wearing race rep leathers speed!!
Well not being there I can't corroberate the story, but it sounded like an officer interpretting the law to suit his own purposes. He probably had targets to hit that week, points mean prizes in that game ;)

when i got stopped for speeding couple wks ago he ticketed me for speed , warned me re small plate and advised. expected to see it changed the next time he see's me
but said nothing about visor and its black as black gets
also said nothing about full bore tail pipe no baffle
