My latest bike add-on, guess what it is

Post by avengerpenguin »

As I am bored and just for fun, there are no prizes, anyone want to have a guess as to what I have been making today for my bike!

Its still a prototype, so the final version may not look that similar.

It's got a brushless gimbal motor, as I think it will be be smoother than a servo, this will be controlled by a KK multicopter flight board I have kicking about that has gyro sensors built in, custom firmware on the flight board to change one of the channels to work in reverse, to keep the camera level, then just a power supply etc, I also have the functionality to live stream from the gopro back to a monitor/tv.

I have access to a milling machine and a 3d printer, so if it works, will make a more robust streamlined version.

Ideally I would like to have a final version ready for the llandow track day, I can have a motogp style camera set up then, just minus the rider ability!!!!

So far owes me about £20, so only a bit of fun

I think if you get it to Work you might have a few orders from members on here. :)):

:-bd very nice. It costs about £20 just for a fixed camera mount (piece of bent metal with some holes in). As Bnm's said it should sell well if you were to consider manufacturing a few. :ymapplause:

Make it a bit taller, replace the motor with a suitable counterweight. No waterproofing electronics issues and gravity doesn't need a power source either.Just my tuppence. :-B

Some more progress on the gyro cam project, control board arrived the other day, spent all day yesterday programming and setting up the controller.

I have cobbled together the rest of the prototype, and will be strapping it to the back of the bike tomorrow for a couple of low speed tests.

Now that is clever!!
Being rude but how much has this cost to manufacturer?
Beats some of the other mounts I have seen hands down!!

Cant wait to see some on bike footage!

As it stands me at present, which is still very much an alpha prototype.

Aluminium Nicked of the old man
Brushless motor £15
Gimbal Control Board £25
Lipo Battery £10

Plus the camera etc, and then at present around 20-25 hours of my time as it stands at the moment, tomorrow will tell when I strap it to the bike, see it is able to self level with cornering g-force.

Then I will need to manufacture a new mount, as the current one maxes out at approx 45 degrees, (not that I can get the bike over that far) but it would be better if it can move 360. I also have a 720p bullet cam, which is potentially possible to mount directly onto the motor, which as an overall design would be closer to the motogp type cameras.

We will see tomorrow

You can also buy ready to go, premade ones for £60 on eBay. Work very well by all accounts.
