Race seat, pic of finished article....

Post by CBXTrev »

I have hated the thick seat padding on my R1 track bike from day 1, so far have tried twice to sort a nice looking place to put my backside and think I have now finally done it......found myself a suitable piece of metal sheet and fabricated it into the base that you see in the pic. Now I can just stick on a nicely cut piece of HD foam and it's done and will look pretty good I think and will no longer resemble an armchair. The HD foam will completely cover the base. Had to do it this way as the seat unit for the R6 has the middle missing which is usually covered by the bulky sub seat.
Will post a pic of the finished article once I have the HD foam which is coming from eBay

good thinking, just make sure the battery terminals are insulated from that sheet of metal.

...for sure, will put on some kind of rubberised covering underneath, also going to fabricate a neater, better looking battery box....

Why not fabricate the final seat out of fibreglass, that way no need to do any insulating and it should be lighter too :D ......

Give me a shout if you need any advice or such like, its my field of expertise. I've just repaired Graham's X7 seat base using fiberglass as the steel was too thin and fragile to be welded.
