Helmets

A local vendor of things motorcycle recently tried a Box (UK made and under £50!) v. sledgehammer bout and the Box very nearly won. Not scientific as there is much more to an accident than extreme blunt force but quite an eye opener. I am pretty sure my neck would have let go of my head before the helmet cracked.

Like many say comfort and noise (including vents and visors) are probably what it's about rather than safety as long as the SHARP rating wasn't bad. Sadly for the amount of miles I expect to do a cheap one will have to do. The day I decide to pootle up to Exeter at midnight to join the run back down here is the day I look for something better;-)

When it comes to buying a helmet you must consider the following things in my mind.

- how much money you have to spend (as you should be looking for the best helmet within your budget)
- the fit of the helmet (spend time trying them on as you wear them for a reason)
- safety rating
- Then finally the style and colour

And always remember you only get one head so it's worth protecting.

My helmet of choice is 'shoei'
