Clip-ons

I'd like to fit clip-ons on my CB.

ANy one know where/who could do this? I'd need to know that fitting them wouldn't mean hitting the tank...

I can only think of the usual routes, check Renthal clip on kits maybe? Otherwise check out Demon tweeks, they sell a lot of clip ons from various manufacturers so would give you plenty of companies to inquire with. Or of course try Google etc.

Like a lot of apparently simple jobs it's not as easy as it sounds - I've done it.

First of all, check just how much drop there will be to the bars with clip ons under the top yoke - it may be more than you're expecting and you could end up bent double. You'll probably need to fit lock stops to the forks to restrict the steering lock. And you'll need to fit a custom clutch cable and check that it'll route properly and still work, and you'll also need a shorter hose on the front brake.

As above, you may or may not need to alter clutch, throttle, brakes, choke cables/hoses, but you won't know until you get the bars in a position you like and try them. Generally a re-route can solve many problems. Lock stops,fairing/tank clearance once again are hard to judge until you try, but once again shouldn't be showstoppers.

One question - how do your bars mount at present? You may need a new top yoke if its to look attractive .......

May be a easier option to go and get a set of flat drag bars to eliminate the rise out of the handle bars to give a subtle drop,
This should give you an easier option to eliminate lock stops or fowling on the tank,

All this talk about resizing cables and putting lock-stops on the steering etc is a bit beyond my levels of engineering. Is there a Company that can do this sort of thing?

To be honest, it sounds worse than it is. As I said, the best thing to do is get the bars and fit them, then see what issues you have. With something like the (admittedly expensive) variobars you can go from not far off standard to ridiculously low.

As Mr Lard says though, a set of drag bars (or even Ace bars - remember them, all you Elsie fans???) Will give you a feel for whether it works for you and what issue might arise without spending too much money.....

It's all pretty easy it's only nuts and bolts check fork diameter, sus out sizes of other makes of standard clipons alot cheaper that after market, I had race clipons now have cbr 929 clipons on my zx10r gives a 1" rise on standard no issues and cost about sixty quid have ago if it doesn't work sell them on again

If you change the bars for lower ones, particularly if they are are narrower, the clutch and throttle cables will almost certainly be too long. When you turn the bars to full lock, they will probably kink and go stiff. Best case, you can't pull the clutch in. Worst case, the throttle will jam open. Had that happen when I changed a set of bars.

The hydraulic hose will also be too long, and once again it'll kink as you turn the bars and could rub on something. I had a braided hose fail for exactly this reason - arriving at the stop line on a downhill T junction to a main road with a non-functioning front brake is not recommended. Fortunately, the rear still worked.

A set would give you limitless possibilities and should look quite appropriate on a big naked bike.
