Swindon Area Help!

Post by Garvey2003 »

Hi ya all,

Ive been only bikeing for the past 2 year on my 95 gsxr750. Well to cut a long story short, I have been plagued with one problem after another.
Its got to a stage were I have a Direct Debt set up at my local bike shop :( Jsut kidding.

My main problem is down to carbs. I have spent a fortune on carbs and no one seems to be able to set the things up. I have even brought another set from ebay but no help. Now I have some engine noise. My wife wants me to get rid of the bike but if it goes as is I will not be able to buy another bike and that me back in a car until Im 40
I got some good mates in USA with the same bike who help me out with advice on what to do but I was wondering if anyone within swindon or surrounding areas would be willing to give my bike a once over?

I really hope someone can help! :?:

Sorry to hear all the trouble mate, just wondered if a Suzuki mechanic has had a go at setting up?

And what sort of noise is the engine making?

No a Suzuki guy hasn't as of yet. i really cant afford the prices after all the cash I have wasted on this bike at Artdeans!

The noise is like a clicking noise. it gets faster as you rev the bike?

I know certain Gixxer 750's had cam chain tensioner problems, they didn't officially recall as far as i know, but did offer replacements, but from what i heard, thats only fecked if your engine sounds like a diesel?

For the sake of ?20 you might as well do an oil change if not done recently see if that resolves the noise?

its had a Oil change, filter change, sparks done and carbs cleaned and balanced. well as for the last one. the carbs are still out at low speed and lumpy.
I have a dodgy fuel tap which I have one on order.

30000 miles on the bike all this has been done with 200 miles. as I havent been able to ride the bloody thing!

Hi garvey, just thinkin back to the good old days of doing my own bike repairs.................Have you checked the timing, coils etc. This could account for lack of performance and lumpy at idle or low speed.

If youve had the carbs set up surely the garage would have noticed the other probs?
Without seeing and listening its difficult to make a good judgement, but I hope this might help. :)

Well without listening to it myself can't say, but I reckon it sounds like either the valves ain't been done and/or the camchain tensioner has snuffed it...

Worst case it could be the big/little end bearings but GSXR engines useually do more miles than that before you have to sort the bearings out!

From what you've said, sounds like Minor service every 4000 miles had been done, but has missed all the major services! (I believe every 12'000 miles on your bike???)

Anyway I should be over Phil's sometime this week, I'll let you know when I'm down there ride it over and i'll check it out :D

check that your exhaust headers havent loosened, a loose header clamp can make a real valve-y tappety noise that gets worse under load. has anyone had the head off or the cams out at any time? worth checking the cam timing not out at all. id have thought if tensioner had jammed you'd be hearing a slapping from the camchain when you back off the throttle rather than a tappety noise. Valve clearances been done recently?

When you put the other carbs on did you go through all the settings and condition, or just bolt em on? if you havent already done so then whipping em apart and checking float heights all ok, needles on same clips, pilot screws at same position, all gaskets and rubber o-rings by vacuum take-offs are present and in good nick, diaphragms not split etc etc.

also, emulsion tubes on mikuni carbs on gixxers oval out really easy and mess up the midrange and off-idle by making em run too rich, just check visually that they dont look oval.

Valve cleareneces should had been done around 15,000 miles... Dunno when the next one is/was due. Sounds worrying if they havent been done.

I paid £75 (3hrs labour) to get mine checked. Or you could do it yourself... Or get furry to do it ;)
