Bandit scrambler build

Post by Bear101 »

Hi all so I’m new to SWB and biking to be fair.

Any way I’m doing a scrambler build (over the winter) on a mk2 1200 bandit.
Thought I’d share it here.

I’ve got a XJR1300 which I love and is way to nice to chop up so I bought a cheapish bandit as a toy/ project for winter. I’ve been following a few guys on YouTube and thought I’m sure I could have a go at that.

I’m also a bit of a gadget fan so have splashed out on the m-unit blue and the motoscope mini, I fancy a keyless bike.

I’m off now to read the how to insert images from iPad then I’ll get some pics up. :-*

The bandit when it arrived.
I didn’t even ride it.

Then came the easy bits, stripping stuff off.

Then I started stripping the tank, I want a brushed finish with a satin clear coat. Proving to be difficult to achieve but think I’ve got a plan now.

Removed the air box with a little help from the multitool and trial fitted some cone air filters.

Progress so far, seat hoop tacked on and a rough bend to give me a guide for when I get new tube and access to a bender.
I’ve got lots of bits already say waiting to go on, just want to get the subframe done first then strip the engine out and front end off. Paint the frame and engine then retire it using the m-unit blue as a base.

You'll need to work no the carbs now that the airbox has gone. New jets and needles to get it running right.

It'll be a [bar steward] to get running smoothly with pod filters. I'd leave the stock airbox on. Have you any thoughts on the exhaust yet, perhaps high level for the "scrambler" look?

Keep us posted with the good work pal :-bd

Planned to re jet the carbs and replace needles, I thought about keeping the standard air box but I want the open look of pods.
As for exhaust I’ve got a GP style cone with ah high level link pipe.
