Leather shopping

Post by Jak »

So ... I got money for my birthday and figure it's finally time I bought some leathers that fit me  ... so I shall drag sprocket off shopping at the weekend and see what I can find

but being relatively new to Devon and as the only bike shop I've been in so far is Bridge ....

where should I look? where are the shops and what are they like?

comments from the girlies on the site particularly welcome coz I know that girls' leathers are harder to find

dunno about local places (there used to be a place on brunel industrial estate that only sold leathers and i believe specialised in kids and ladies gear), but a lot of people i know seem to swear by hein gericke near bristol for leathers? could be worth the journey, and think they have an online catalogue

Donno how far your budget stretches... but if you can afford it get custom made ones... alot of these "off the shelf" types oftern don't fit people right.

As for Hein gericke... I just hope their leathers ain't as crap as their gloves... latest pair I brought for ?G80 started fraying on the outside within 2000 miles :(

Considering how much leathers cost, I would spend ageeeeeeeeeees shopping around, don't buy the first ones you see!!!

Jak, you could try J&S accesories in Plymouth. Was in there last weekend and noticed they have a section full of ladies leathers. And their prices are quite reasonable too :)

My missus got her kit from a good website called http://www.girlsbike2.com. They cover all the major brands and do some really nice stuff. Their returns policy is pretty good too :D

definately J&S as mentioned their own range are really good. I found their David Pro leather jeans great for girls who have hips! ;)

I've also got some Frank Thomas Sofia Cordura but I'm not getting on too well with those at the moment - prefer leathers!

If you have money to burn you can go through bridge in exeter to get RST leathers made to measure. Their stuff looks good (but never tested it myself).

lol, i have to endure trips to ann sumers on a monthly basis :( i just bought some rst leather trousers with knee sliders dunno the exact model but out of all the trousers i tried on the only ones i felt comfortable in were the cheapest ones!! i started off lookin at some dianese trousers that were like 275quid but after 40 mins in bridge i came to the conclusion that the only trousers that didnt make me look like a raving nazi from ww2 were the 129quid rst's . i like em

Well I had a look in GTs in Torquay ... very little for us girls in there :( and I know Bridge don't have too much choice either.

Went down to Hein Gericke and tried on a really nice 2-piece ... and was quite tempted to part with my cash there and then .... but there was this lovely set of J&S leathers on eBay that I was keeping an eye on ... so I went home, bid and won them :) Picked them up Monday and when I tried them on ..... they fitted perfectly. They had their first run (and first soaking) last night on the way to Plymouth. Really pleased with them ... and for less than £100 too 8)
