Mix and match tyres...

Post by Busa Bro »

Hi.
I know everyone will say, yeah obviously it's best to have matching tyre sets.
But just bought bike. Came with new Avon front, but scrubbed out rear.
Tempted to put a quality sports tourer on rear, high mileage but good side grip, but bike shop is saying put another Avon sports on.

What are people's thoughts?

Crack on, I use mixed tyres on my trackbike, have used them on my Road Bike too.

So long as they're legal it's all good.

Same here. And reverse rotation to get more use out of the rear on track.

Judging by your moniker Karl I guess we have another Busa rider here? I'd be happy to put a different tyre on but being as I'm not happy with Avons (exploding/delaminating) I'd swap the front too. Whatever you go for on the rear make it a 190/55 - turns in better than the stock 190/50 and not as "lardy" as a 200 width. I'm happy with Conti SportAttack3 on mine, don't know what the new SportAttack4 is like though. Some of the Busa guys rate the Mich Power5 very highly. If you want a sports/touring tyre I'd recommend Metz Roadtec01SE or Mich Pilot Road5. At the end of the day there aren't any bad tyres from the main manufacturers.

Cheers guys. That was my thoughts.
Hear you about Avon but it's minty fresh, literally done 500miles..... I hate waste! 😆

Yeah 2015 Gen2 Busa. Not had it long but absolutely love it.
Never had a bike that has made me forever shaking my fist at the sky and the bloody weather we keep getting! 😂😂😂

The Michelin Power 5 gives good grip, but I'd imagine with near on twice the bhp and torque of my 790Duke, a Busa will rip that to shreds in no time.
KTM 1190ADV - sold
KTM 790ADV - sold
KTM 790 Duke - sold
Honda CB300R - sold
Honda NC750X DCT - sold
Yamaha MT-07 Y-AMT - very modern
1981 Suzuki TS185ER - very much not modern 🙄

Busa normally rips any tyre to shreds, 2000miles would be awesome
.....or you can completely waste the bike and poodle about for high mileage.....may as well put high bars on it and join the IAM

TBH i'm not a fan of mixing tyre matches......
I always tend to buy them together and normally go through 2 rears to 1 front

On the tyre front would recommend Metzeler think they are great tyres normally try and go for the M7’s but if your looking for longevity for high power bike you might want to try the Z8 road tyres as have heard very good things. Personally not a fan of the mix and match but also to be fair never actually done it so would be unfair to dismiss it as an option.
