Re: Excellent re' trail braking on the road
Good video and think that he explains it well. Also think that it says a lot that he is asked the question so regularly but also liked how he politely worded the answer which was very politely saying why the hell would you be riding so fast on the road that you need to trail brake into corners. From my own point of view the only time i have trail braked into a corner on the road was "Oh Shit" moments the rest of the time as he suggested either just role off the throttle or a little dab or brakes and then tip in.
Again though good video and well explained

Yup, for once I agree with you young Brian
And Rob (above) has saved me the long winded task of one digit typing pretty much what I would have said. So cheers

Re: Excellent re' trail braking on the road
I don't ride as fast on the road as a lot of others here but when braking is appropriate for corners I do mostly trail brake into the corner, easing the front brake off to still have just a little as I turn in and easing right off as the turn is made. I do not brake heavily in the corner. When the corner opens up and the view ahead indicates it is safe to do so I gently roll on the throttle. The aim is to be smooth, like the Fast Show Jazz Club

One of the advantages of a sodding great twin is engine braking for days. Let's you not really touch the brakes unless stopping.
I'll watch the video later but sounds like a worthwhile view.

Re: Excellent re' trail braking on the road
I trail brake whenever engine braking isn’t enough … gently balancing the braking force against the lean angle and the grip available, just like Brian says. Once I’ve stopped braking, I’m looking to get the power on smoothly. I rarely coast on a neutral throttle round a bend. I’m either braking or accelerating. Exactly the same as on track but on track it’s more aggressive.ptolemyx wrote: ↑Dec 9th, '22, 15:48 I don't ride as fast on the road as a lot of others here but when braking is appropriate for corners I do mostly trail brake into the corner, easing the front brake off to still have just a little as I turn in and easing right off as the turn is made.
