Sunday 14th June - Blackdowns Bimble

Post by Robbo87 »

Right folks, nice sunny weather promised so who's up for a ride around the Blackdown Hills?

09.45 hrs-ish: Meet at the Shell filling station just off the M5 junction 27 - EX16 7HD.
10.00 hrs PROMPT: Depart - please be fueled up ready.
Brekky/snack stop: Tramstop Cafe in Colyton.
Finish: Bluebell Cafe and filling station, Willand.
NOTE # 1: If there's more than two or three of us we'll use the drop-off system.
NOTE # 2: I'll contact the Tramstop Cafe to make sure they're going to be open and reserve the right to change route if they're not.
Planned route: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/bp,+M ... FQAw%3D%3D
Pace: To fit the conditions and our preferences i.e. making good progress but no knee down antics - the Blackdowns ain't the Isle Of Man and we aren't on closed roads (more's the pity).

List so far:
Robbo87.
Ptolemyx.
Arty.
Banjo (?).
Andy W (?).
BrettG (?).
Triumph Sprint ST 1050.

Of course I'll be joining in the fun.
Brakes have been sorted - abs switched off - look out for my Toprak like stoppies
...In my dreams

Advice from a skinflint. Don't fill up at the starting point filling station. As far as I know cheapest near there is Tesco, Collumpton.

Phil, good old Google Maps screws up your route, how many miles is it, can you post a screenshot of the actual route?
Thanks

PS.... not sure I can make it but thought I'd ask for others :(

Route comes up okay(ish) on p.c. using Phil's link. I guess the business at Combe St Nicholas is a glitch. Same at Honiton going out to Fenny Bridges.
Here's a screenshot of the 66mile route:-

I'd do 60 miles as per following screenshot but Phil may well have a good reason for the route from the original post link:-

Andy W - that's some weird route you got there (posted above), bears no resemblance to my route.
To confirm:
1. Ptolemyx' s first pic is correct.
2. My full route is 68.7 miles start to finish - Google Maps calculation.
3. The Combe St Nicholas bit IS a Google Maps glitch - well guessed there young Brian.
4. The Fenny Bridges bit ISN'T a glitch - I'm tagging in a short stretch of trunk road to stop you all developing 'Blackdown Blues', fear not, I make up for it immediately after :)): (zoom into that section to get a clue).

Note # 3 (added to my first post): I can also confirm that that the Tramstop Cafe will be open and will be happy to take our money - providing I can find it and then find our way out of Colyton afterwards.
