my gsxr is heavy to pick up off the road

Post by Ride-or-die »

so winter is upon us and as you know my insurance runs out soon, well actually this friday. today all i could think bout was my bike so i decided i would go for one last ride before it runs out and im no longer going to have it insured.

as it hadnt been ridden for bout a month i chequed oil, tyre pressures etc before starting her up, she fired up easy but didnt run perfectly. but i thought once i get going she will be ok. so of i went down my road, applied brakes first front, then rear gently as it hadnt been ridden and they were rusty. all was ok, but she still ran like a sack of crap, i had to keep the revs up to keep her running. this was ok, up untill i tapped her into second, cam off the throttle, rear wheel locked up and down we went.

got up, went to pick the bike up, couldnt do it, tried again and managed to lift it, now my back is killing me and my ribs feel broken, not sure if the back is from the fall or the lifting, either way im hurting.

the amazing this is tho, it was at like 15 mph at the most and it has ruined my R&G crash mushrooms, maybe because my last crash weekened them, but i need new ones and my farring is severly scratched.

so now the slightly more damaged bike goes into winter storage, just wish i hadnt bothered to go for this one last ride

err sounds kinda strange how the rear just locked up??

Adrenaline works well for me, When I stupidly dropped my GSXR750 (200kg dry!) infront of some peeps, I just got down and picked it up first go. I once struggled to pickup my old RS125 (115kg dry) though 8)

someone ruby tackled/speed hugged me off my bike the other day, was too worried about the carbs flooding so just jumped off and picked it up, not bothering to think about lifting with legs etc, back hurt for ages after. Did it by myself so at least i know i can do it now, only damage was snapping off the clutch lever. Unlucky, not good to have as your last ride.
i dont have a drinking problem.......if anything, i'm too good at it

Hi all

been too busy to come on the site for some time.

Sorry you dropped the bike and hope the cost of repair is not too much.

A 'Friend' of mine (non biker), jumped onto my bike about three weeks ago, with him momentum carrying the bike went straight over onto its right hand side. I don't know how I did it but I didn't shout, scream or anything. I calmly went over, pulled in the brake lever and picked it up, using a method a cruiser friend had showed me. Worked a treat. Good job really coz she's quite a lumpy beast. Luckily there was only a tiny mark on the front edge of the can, and a tiny mark on the bar end. The crash bungs I got from the ZRX website in the States were great.

Absolute Sh*thouse, sorry to hear about that.
Dropped my SV back in the day, holy crap it was heavy.
I have a theory tho, cos when i binned the R6 i was going slighlty faster than when i binned the SV and picked that off the floor with no probs (mostly because of the adrenaline!!) so next time anyone drops it, do it with speed and it won't be a problem!

Gutted for you mate :( - its never nice to drop your bike

BUT

exactly what happened not sure i understand. Why did the rear wheel lock up? And even when it did why did that cause u to crash?
Still it sounds like the bike came of quite lightly

Also just like to point out that SVs and GSXRs are as light as a bloody feather u wimps  - cbr100 and zrx now you're getting into daytona 900 teritory. Well done tricked up well impressed u picked your bike up being such a short arse I seen boyscout struggle like hell with much lighter bikes must have been all that internal rage u were supressing
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck

man you must be gutted! tis one of those things though really isnt it, plastic and paint can be fixed and least you are in one piece.

managed to knock my old bike off the centrestand whilst changing the headraces once, that was something like 230kg dry and nearly gave myself a hernia trying to lift it back up again with no forks!
