I also passed the BMF test before applying for the actual test.. so that was 2 tests I did.

It was a while ago now...
It was just like the real test I think but a bit harder. A mate told me to do it as they train & test you to a higher level so if you pass that you should breeze the real test, which I did.

On the BMF test you got fitted with an intercom and then told where to go whilst one of their testers followed you. He watched my positioning, observations, signals etc. He asked me a few highway code questions and then scored me afterwards. I guess the test was mainly about how you behave in built up areas and around other traffic, which mirrored what the real test was back then.
I now have a BMF certificate of competence which is recognised by insurers and can make the policies a bit cheaper.

I think the hardest part of the new tests is the theory part.. it's worded to trip you up and has questions that shouldn't be relevant (like CPR).
Then the mod 1 might be hard for me as I tend to get lost when I look at a playground full of cones, they should paint the course to mark the route rather than scattering cones around.
The mod 2 would be easy for all of us I think as we already know how the road systems work and we are familiar with riding, just a quick brush up on the highway code and we'd be good to go.

Mod 1 is so much simpler than you think you look at the cones and think what am I suppose to do here but when it is broken down into sections and indervidual test it could not be simpler u turn speed trap to emergency stop swerve left swerve right the hardest thing g is you have to act like your on a road so mirrors shoulder look blinkers ect have to be done easily forgotten when you no your the only person in the playground

So would we do this on our bikes or the 125s at the centre?

That would depend on what test you want if it's your full licence it would need to be on a 600 or above

i think it's more of a cone drill exersise for the simple fun of it. the road craft thing is just a ball ache. the cone wok is where most are rusty.

No cheating and doing it on your WR. Would be a piece of pi$$ on that. I did my Part 1 in 1982 on my TS125ER and the cones were the easy bit. A guy tried it on his RD125 and even the instructor had trouble getting through as the steering lock was so restricted

According to Bennetts.. yes, it can give a discount.

As for being up a r s e 's... well.. that sounds more like your department, but I'm not judging.

I did the old style test march 1981, so the 2 part must have come in soon after. It was a bit of a joke really, with the examiner walking the (road) course i knew when i was out of sight. The 'emergency stop' was a controlled stop over a distance longer than i would normally stop in - even had time to go down through the box.

TS 125x. Like a DT but slower.

Your water-cooled 125 was still quicker than my air cooled ER model. But mine had square clocks which made it better

Mine had square clocks. They stopped at 75mph
