Have you blown any fuses on the bike?
Before attempting to start the bike, how long (days/weeks) had the bike been sitting about?
If your bike is a Carb'ed version and it's been sitting around for a while, it could be that the fuel in the float chambers has gone off (de-stablised) which could be the cause...
In which case flush fresh fuel though and get some Silkolene Carb cleaner.
Also when trying to start the bike do the lights on the dash virtually die (i.e. go off/very dim) in which case the battery might be tired and need topping up/replacing as required.

i charged up battery and nothing so i tried bump starting it in all the gears and nothing apart from the wheels locking up. checked the fuses and they are fine, cant believe it, i feel quite upset about it really, cus i love my bike

so i am going try and get hold of a battery checker and see if its nackered maybe, i am really worried it might be something like a piston or the head??? would it do that sort of thing if it was?

Started my bike for ride out this morning, fired up first time, selected 1st - bike stalled & engine cut out (left side stand down

). tried to start bike again & all I could get was a clicking noise - engine would not turn over! lights everthing worked etc. in the end bumped started bike down hill engine fired up everthing normal. Cut engine & tried to restart nothing accept clicking thought starter motor was shot!! bump started again fired up - went for ride out (fantastic

); have had no probs since. Starter motor, solinoid may be sticking !! Long winded I know but sounded similar to your problem (CBR 600F 2000).

Does the engine turn over when you press the start button ?
no use checking plugs if the motor is not turning over

has this problem twice on my bandit. First time was beacuse i used to go out everyday and just start it up in the drive way through winter to keep it in use. but beacuse i didn't drive it anywhere the plugs gunked up. Second time, now this is pretty rare but if you cant fix it look into it. My bike has a jobbie that wont let the starter engine work or let the engine tick over if the side stand it down. Took me fecking ages to work that out. Beacuse the mechansim on the stand jammed about 1 - 2 cm from being fully folded up. So it looked up but it drove me mad, have a look.

does the engine turn over at all when you try to bump it, or does the wheel lock up the minute you release the clutch? if it locks immediately and wont even turn when you bump it in 2nd, 3rd or 4th then it sounds like the engine is siezed for some reason. Try lifting the back wheel off the ground, putting it in high gear and try turning the wheel to see if it turns engine over (ignition off just in case
The clicking you hear when you thumb the starter is the solenoid so power is getting through that - if the solenoid was jammed it wouldnt click.
where abouts in Newton Abbot are you? could have a quick look after work some time if you wanted?
