yeh rash mate, sounds not a bad job, reasure him, make him concentrate focus, talk to him about bikes antything to keep his mind off things, tlak him through controling his breeth. i wouldnt have moved him, leave him as he is. moving him could bugger up is spine if its broken and u dont know for sure. if u really needed to roll him over u should roll him over alltoghter, keep his body in the same position and roll him over.trying not to move him atall. wife did a good job keeping him warm, and best thing to do for shock, is to elevate the legs, keep the blood mainly flowing to the vital organs. not alot u can do thought unless u got all da right kit. dont worry mate, u did all u could. nothing more that u could have done fella. good show

Bikers to learn First Aid skills.
First aid skills are to be taught on a new course designed for motorcyclists.
in 2004, nearly 5,500 bikers and more than 360 pillion passengers were killed or seriously injured on Britains roads.
Because of this, St Johns ambulance has set up a National First Aid course for all bikers and quad bikers.
Operations manager Steve Wilcox said "If you are involved in a car accident you have the protection of safety features, such as side impact bars and air bags".
"But on a motorcyle you are extremely vulnerable, both to injury in the course of the accident, and then from being in danger in the road".
"This course covers scene management as well as a detailed look at injuries and how to tackle them, plus the all-important decision about whether the helmet stays on or comes off".
Insurance company Bikesure will offer cheaper bike insurance to anyone who completes the course.
A leaflet entitled Emergency Aid for Bikers has also been produced and is available from the St Johns HQ at Matford, Exeter, or biking shops across the county.
For further details on the course, call St Johns Ambulance, Devon on 01392 824445 or E-mail brigade@devon.sja.org.uk

Sorry in advance for all those who are about to be offended...BUT...Stinky wrote:Thats for infants and babysremember 5 compressions to one breathe (if i remember correctly)., its 15 breaths/ 2 compressions. 1/3rd of the way into their chest
. Keep taking even if he passes out because he will still be able to hear you and if he did pass out dont put him in a recovery position.
The above post & others illustrates the point... If you don't know.. don't post..a little knowledge is DANGEROUS.
Even 'qualified' First Aiders have only completed a 4-day course.. they are not paramedics & haven't completed 5-years of medical training and are not therefore in a position to pass on potentially lifesaving info to others.
By all means get some training under your belt for your benefit..highly recommended but if you want to teach others get properly qualified through the right channels..
Rant over..

You did right ASh, I am apparently a First Aider, but like everyone has said, I wouldnt of done owt different, as you said he was in pain but he was concious and you can be in a lot of trouble for moving him.
But it aint a nice experience, I asked my first aider about bike accidents and he said if they are finding it hard to breath you can loosen the chin strap, but even then I dont know if I would? As I am not trained.
Just try and control the situation and get the professionals in, however obviously if he was unconsious and not breathing you have a different situation.
Well done though mate
