Welcome to the site.
As for starter bikes, I would spend a couple of grand on a 4/5 year old SV, hairnet, blandit etc.
Keep it for a couple of years, build up some no claims, then move on to bigger things.
That way you wont lose too much in depreceation, like you would if buying new.

SV's are awesome for learners, all the power you'd need for your first big bike, I've had mine for just over a year and a half, and I'm only just moving on!

The new GSR is a sweet looking bike, and will fine for a learner and still provide plenty of fun for when you get some experience. If you want the ride of your life then go for the GSXR. If you buy new you have to run them in, which gives you time to learn the bike before you open her up.
Best thing to do is go and sit on a few to see what you feel most comftable on.

I like the super duke but insurance is going to be £1400 fully comp. so think i will stick with a smaller engien until i get some NCB
