i race with just standard glassess on and had no worries. ive heard contact lenses dry out and are a pain when on the bike.

Personally I would also go somewhere else to have a test done to see if you really do need glasses, I had an eye test last year as I was suffering with head pains and went to Spec Savers who said yes you need to wear glasses for when watching TV etc etc.

Wierd how when I went to the Boot sigh peeps they said I didnt need glasses at all.

So who do you trust.

I wear contacts and they are fine, esp these new ones I have - the Acuvue moist daily disposables. They are really comfortable and I haven't found that they dry out. The only problem I find with contacts rather than glasses is that at night headlights from vehicles coming at you sort of 'stream' and so you have a moment of it not being fantastically clear - then again, that could be my prescription - apparently if you're shortsighted you are affected more by the amount of light..???

When I did wear glasses, I found that if it was wet/cold they steamed up - this was particularly bad when wet as you would lift the visor to ease the steaming up, and then the rain would hit the lenses and then you can't see anything at all! Unless you get mini windscreen wipers for your glasses?!

Anyway, I can recommend my optician - S Chatterjee in Magdalen Road. He's a contact lense specialist - so good in fact that he has clients travel from London to see him..

Yeah, but how funny would it be seeing bikers riding towards you with massive eyes and noses?

I've always rode with specs on. The only problem I've found is with misting in cold weather. Bob Heath anti-fog is good. Pink-Stick is OK. It's no biggy, but inevitably when things start to get foggy it's double trouble with glasses on.

There's a breath defector in my new Caberg. I'm hoping that'll be effective. I'll find out when the postman delivers it...

I hope its better than the breath deflector in my AGV cos that utter rubbish. I have just stuck a Fog City to see when I shut the visor. The Fog City seems to work well though. I got it at the begining of last week and rode to work every day so it was defo put to the test.

I've been riding with glasses for near enough 8 years and I hate them. Everytime you put your lid on or take it off you've got to faf around (which is why I don't take my lid of when buying petrol). I put my gasses on my gloves which are on my seat when putting my lid on which is ok unless windy or raining.

A bit of advice as Kim - I'm just too lazy to log on myself mentioned. Don't open your visor if there is any sort of percipitation (haven't used that word for a while ) in the air, including mist and fog. You can wipe your visor but not your galsses so you'd have to pull over and faf about.

I've used anit fog stuff. Got the pink stick at the mo. Stops misting but you end up with a film of water on the visor or glasses instead.

I do air rifle shooting and find that when you've sneaked up on a bunny and breather heavily your glasses mist up then. So because on this and the bike I'm going for contacts. My optitions do a free trial. I'm hopefully gonna go for the daily use ones but only buy enough for 2 pairs a week for the weekend and then use my glasses at work etc during the week. This works out at £10 a month plus.

I buy my lenses from a company on the net called freenetlenses. they are the same product as in the uk and once you know the perscription you can save money as the are not taxed to death like us (just allow about a week for delivery). I just go for a normal check up every six months in the uk as mine on extended wear so the stay in for a month. I have had them for ages now with no probs. Far too vain to go back to wearing glasses

Went for my contact trial on Thursday, hated them

The optition has always said that a lot of people who don't like the thought of touching close to or on their eyes normaly get over it but that's not my problem. I didn't mind him putting his fingers near my eyes, I just found the lenses really uncomfortable. It was like having something in my eye, which I did I supose. Anyway he's gonna get some different ones for me to try

Stick with 'em Mike. I hated contacts when I first tried them, but I made myself go into town with a trial pair on. Ordering a coffee at Costa was, er, fun! I couldn't see a damn thing! I've got an astigamatism which means that I need the toric lenses. They're slightly weighted on one side so that they maintain the correct orientation on the eye. Thats the plan anyway, but they took a while to settle down. People must've thought my guinea pig had just died or something as I was wandering around town with my eyes streaming! After about 40 minutes all was well.

Contacts still aren't perfect for me. I can't use them for anything that requires me to be constantly focused like VDU's, driving or reading. But for going out in the evening or the weekend they are a nice way to ditch the specs and still see pretty good!
